Watch The 'Captain America: Civil War' Trailer, It's Better Than Anything Else You're Doing

Last night, getting ready to go to bed, I checked one last time to see if the Captain America: Civil War trailer had dropped. It had. I promptly watched it three times back-to-back-to-back. And then I watched it two more times on my phone before I finally turned off the lights. And a few times again this morning. Because this is Marvel we’re talking about, rest assured that the next few months will be a monumental deluge of clips, TV spots, and marketing of all stripes, but to be honest, I’d be completely satisfied if they don’t release anything more than this trailer.

There are all kinds of great moments, from Falcon spin-kicking dudes to big explosions to Captain America and Bucky Barnes teaming up to beat down Iron Man. But it’s the characters that sell this. If you’re not a fan of these people, you probably won’t care about this. But I most certainly am a fan, and Marvel delivers precisely what you want from these characters, and it’s fantastic. How can that moment where Steve Rogers says, “He’s my friend,” and Tony Stark replies, “So was I,” not absolutely tear you up? Are you made of stone you dead-inside bastard?

People keep talking about how there’s no look at the new MCU Spider-Man, but I’m okay with that. I’m fine without him showing up in the marketing, in fact, I prefer it that way. Maybe a tease here or there, like a shot of some webbing in the foreground, would be fine, but let’s leave him be. We don’t need him here right now, you know why? Because we get our first look at Black Panther, that’s why. Holy crap, I can’t wait to see him in action.

I can go on and on about this all day, and probably will in one form or another at my day job, but for now, just take a moment and watch this trailer another time or two. Captain America: Civil War opens on May 6, 2016.
