This 'Roar' Trailer Is The Wildest Thing You'll See All Year

Well this is totally insane. If you lament the fact that there are not enough people living among lions in order to lend an air of authenticity to their films, you might want to check out this trailer for the rerelease of 1981’s bonkers Roar. For eleven years, real life couple Tippi Hedren and Noel Marshall, with a very young Melanie Griffith, Hedren’s daughter, in tow, filmed an epic wilderness adventure in their own back yard, and that’s exactly what this film looks like.

After shooting a film in Africa, Hedren and Marshall wanted to make a movie to raise awareness of the poaching and overhunting of great cats, as well as the issues they faced in captivity. They subsequently raised 100 of these animals at their Los Angeles home (remember when you could raise lions at you house?), and somehow the result is Roar, a movie that is hard to accept as something that actually exists.

No animals were harmed during filming, but there were more than 70 injuries and close calls, which is evident from the footage here. What is also evident is that this movie it totally fucking nuts. It was a total box office bomb, but I can’t wait to see the reissue on April 17 from Drafthouse Films. Thanks guys. Check out the trailer below.
