'Inherit The Viper' Trailer: Check Out Josh Hartnett's Small Town Crime Thriller

A bleak, dead end small town; generational cycles of drug use, crime, poverty, and despair; Josh Hartnett. Inherit the Viper reminds me of the town where I grew up. The debut feature for director Anthony Jerjen and writer Andrew Crabtree shows some promise in this new trailer for the upcoming release. Take a look below.

This trailer for Inherit the Viper calls to mind a number of similar recent films. I can’t help but think of The Bygone, Into the Ashes, Donnybrook, and a few other movies that delve into the desolate, desperate lives of folks trapped in dying hamlets, struggling to scrape by and survive.

A January release and a largely VOD unveiling will give some folks pause, as well as the relative unknown status of the filmmakers, but that doesn’t scare me. Sure, maybe it won’t be great, but I’m always game for a down-on-their-luck saga of people trying to do the right thing, and failing, in difficult circumstances.

Jerjen assembled an intriguing cast to bring it all to life. I’m here for a Josh Hartnett resurgence, and Bruce Dern is always a welcome addition. The Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs shows up, as does Owen Teague (Bloodlines, It) and Margarita Levieva (The Deuce).

Here’s a synopsis:
For siblings Kip (Josh Hartnett) and Josie (Margarita Levieva), dealing opioids isn’t just their family business—it’s their only means of survival. When a deal goes fatally wrong, Kip decides he wants out. But Kip’s attempt to escape his family’s legacy ignites a powder keg of violence and betrayal, imperiling Kip, Josie, and their younger brother, Boots (Owen Teague), in this searing crime-thriller that builds to a shattering conclusion.
Inherit the Viper gets a limited theatrical run and drops on VOD outlets on January 10, 2020.
