'Triple Threat' Clip: Iko Uwais Fights Tiger Chen And It Is Good

two asian men fighting

Though it feels like it’s been coming forever, Triple Threat finally hits theaters next week for a one-day extravaganza of face-punching mayhem before it lands on VOD. Frequent visitors to this site know well how much this movie makes me salivate. And we have a new clip that should do the same for you. Check it out below.

This Triple Threat clip demonstrates what the movie does best. It takes the most talented cinematic martial artists working today and finds ways to pit them against one another. In this case, it’s The Raid star Iko Uwais and the Man of Tai Chi himself, Tiger Hu Chen, throwing down in an underground fight. The whys are not important (the plot is borderline incoherent, but the film functions as a delivery system for some of the best recent on-screen fight scenes you’ll come across), but the nuts and bolts fisticuffs are fantastic.

Directed by DTV action standout Jesse V. Johnson (Savage Dog, The Accident Man), Triple Threat stars Uwais, Chen, Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak), Scott Adkins (Boyka: Undisputed), JeeJa Yanin (Chocolate), Michael Jai White (Blood and Bone), former UFC champ Michael Bisping (xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and Celina Jade (Arrow). That cast alone should be enough to spark joy. If it’s not…

I’ve seen Triple Threat, though my full review is embargoed until later this week. All I’ll say is that the fights live up to the hype and that fans of movie martial arts will not be disappointed on that front.

The story is a convoluted mess that basically boils down to three good guys trying to protect a billionaire heiress from three bad guys hired to kill her. Again, the narrative mechanics serve little purpose beyond stringing together a series of fights, but I’m fine with that when the action is this good.

As said earlier, Well Go USA drops Triple Threat into 150 theaters on Tuesday, March 19 for one night only. It then hits the DVD and VOD markets a few days later on March 22 if you don’t live close to one of these cities.
