'V/H/S/Mixtape' (2026) Movie Review

There are two frequent approaches to horror I do not typically care for. First is found footage. I get what people love about these movies, but with a few exceptions, they do not do much for me. Second we have the anthology approach. Shorts are typically a hard sell for me, and stitching them together doesn’t help matters. No matter how hard I try, no matter how many I watch, these are generally not my favorites.

'The Last Stop In Yuma County' (2024) Movie Review

First-time feature writer/director Francis Galluppi’s crime thriller The Last Stop in Yuma County takes a simple, straightforward set up, fills it full of eccentric characters, piles on one complication after another, and ratchets up the tension and pressure until it must explode. It’s a hell of a first film, polished and sure-handed, and apparently caught the right eyes even before release, since the filmmaker has already been tapped to helm the next Evil Dead movie.

'Blackout' Movie Review

After messing with vampires and Frankenstein, in Habit and Depraved respectively, indie horror fave Larry Fessenden returns with his take on werewolves in Blackout. Set in a small town in upstate New York, painter Charley Barrett (Alex Hurt, son of William Hurt, which comes into play in one uniquely pointed way) makes his way through his last day in town, wrapping up loose ends, visiting friends one final time, and trying to right a few lingering wrongs on the way out the door. Complicating his exit, it turns out Charley is a werewolf and responsible for a number of recent deaths the elder powerbroker of this minor hamlet, Hammond (Marshall Bell), has chosen to blame on Miguel (Rigo Garay) despite a lack of evidence.

'Jakob's Wife' (2021) Movie Review

Jakob’s Wife has it all. Barbara Crampton. Larry Fessenden. Priests. Vampires. Rats. Splatter. The line, “I’m going to tongue fuck a hole in your neck until I puke blood.” Concrete Blonde. You know, all the best horror things. A bloody, energetic genre throwback, the latest from Travis Stevens (The Girl on the Third Floor) mixes in humor amongst the body bags and the result is a damn fine time.

'Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich' Trailer: This Movie Looks Insane And Wonderful

Horror hounds know there are roughly one billion Puppet Master movies. Okay, only 13, but still, it’s a bunch and many of them are…let’s stay strictly for the hardcore. We’re talking cheap, DTV offerings of varying quality. So, it may seem strange, in 2018, to be super pumped up for a movie like Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich. But it’s got such manic, over-the-top buzz from sources I trust in these matters, and sounds so bat-shit crazy, I find myself crazy jacked up for this particular slice of mayhem. And by the look of this trailer, my enthusiasm is wholly justified.
