'Licorice Pizza' (2021) Movie Review
As a whole, I’m not entirely certain what Licorice Pizza, the new 70s-set coming-of-age film from Paul Thomas Anderson (Phantom Thread), amounts to. Pieces are absolutely magical, full of joy and whimsy. Others…are a bit more problematic, at best; downright cringe-inducing at worst. It watches like a movie where the filmmaker has zero checks and balances, able to indulge any and every flight of fancy with no oversight. Which is both a good and bad thing by turns. This freedom allows PTA to indulge himself; the flipside of that is, of course, overindulgence.

'Phantom Thread' (2017) Movie Review
There’s much to admire in Paul Thomas Anderson’s
Phantom Thread, though I’m admittedly less high on it than
many folks. But it lands in a precarious position of being a movie that, while
I appreciated and enjoyed certain aspects, outside of hardcore cinephiles, I
can’t think of a single person to whom I can recommend this and reasonably
expect them like what they see.

'Inherent Vice' Movie Review: One Hell Of A Trip, Even If You're Not Sure Why
Paul Thomas Anderson is one of America’s great living auteur
filmmakers, and at this point in his career, with films like Boogie
Nights, There Will Be Blood, and The
Master under his belt, he can, and will, do whatever the hell he wants.
In the case of his latest, Inherent Vice, that’s a
double-edged sword. Sprawling and strange and often entertaining as hell, there
are times you wish someone could have reined things in.

Check Out This Cool New 'Inherent Vice' Trailer And Poster
Just the fact that Paul Thomas Anderson has a new movie
coming out is enough to get most movie fans excited. Though we’re tenting our
fingers like Mr. Burns over his latest, the psychedelic noir adaptation of
Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice, the first trailers have been
rather uninspiring. But lucky for us, there’s this short new trailer, cut by
Anderson himself, which captures the manic, wing-nut energy of the story.
