The Punisher Is Getting His Own Netflix Series

Comic book fans everywhere are getting psyched that we’ll see Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher, in Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil Season 2. I’ve been waiting for decades for someone to get the character right (Punisher: War Zone is as close as anyone has come), and with the dark, gritty episodic nature of Daredevil, there’s hope this could be the one. But now there’s more, as Netflix and Marvel are reportedly working on a new, solo Punisher series.

We’ll meet Jon Bernthal (The WalkingDead) and his take on the vicious vigilante when Daredevil Season 2 drops later this year, and while we haven’t seen him yet, the buzz has been good. And they must like what they see, as TV Line reports that they’re moving ahead with a Punisher series. There isn’t much more in the way of details, as this is still very early in the development process, but that’s promising to those of us who have wanted to see Frank Castle wreak havoc on the underworld and come into conflict with his fellow crime fighters for his morally repugnant methods for years.

Thus far, the Marvel/Netflix team up has proven to be fruitful indeed. Daredevil Season 1 was exactly what I wanted out of an adaptation of my all-time favorite comic, and Jessica Jones was a fantastic addition to the superhero realm. Can’t wait to see what they have in store for Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

We’ll get our first glimpse of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher—and Elektra, stoked to see Elektra, too—when Daredevil Season 2 drops in full on Netflix on March 18.
