'Those Who Wish Me Dead' Trailer: Angelina Jolie Fights Fire And Assassins

After beginning his career as a bit-part actor, Taylor Sheridan made his name penning a string of bleak, neo-frontier, pseudo-westerns set in the modern age. Movie like Hell or High Water and Sicario. Jumping to the director’s chair, his output remains tonally and thematically similar thanks to the likes of Wind River. Judging by this trailer, his latest, an adaptation of Michael Kortya’s novel Those Who Wish Me Dead, trods familiar territory. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and this looks like a movie we will be very, very into.

'Sweet Virginia' (2017) Movie Review

Over the past few years, Taylor Sheridan has won acclaim for writing gritty crime dramas like Sicario and Hell or High Water, and his directorial debut, Wind River. Director James M. Dagg, working from a script by the China Brothers, tries to get in on that act with Sweet Virginia. His sophomore feature dredges similar aesthetic and thematic territory. While it succeeds on some fronts, it hits less hard on others, though the finished product is a serviceable, if unremarkable, mumblecore neo-noir.

Once again I find myself in the camp where I’m the curmudgeonly asshole who doesn’t like the movie everyone else loves, but I don’t particularly care for Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver. It’s fine, just fine, and that’s as high as the praise from this general vicinity is going to get.

The Punisher Is Getting His Own Netflix Series

Comic book fans everywhere are getting psyched that we’ll see Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher, in Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil Season 2. I’ve been waiting for decades for someone to get the character right (Punisher: War Zone is as close as anyone has come), and with the dark, gritty episodic nature of Daredevil, there’s hope this could be the one. But now there’s more, as Netflix and Marvel are reportedly working on a new, solo Punisher series.

We all know that the Punisher has a sweet arsenal to use when it comes to dispensing his particularly brutal form of vigilante justice. We also know that the Punisher is going to appear in Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix. 'Daredevil' Season 2 Just Cast The Punisher

The Punisher is one of my favorite comic books, but it has not fared well when it comes to big screen adaptations. Part of this is because the overtly violent, morally questionable (or repugnant if you like) stance makes any adaptation a hard-R by necessity. Since Daredevil became a hit on Netflix, with a darker, grittier tone rather than the bright fun of Marvel Cinematic Universe, many have wondered if the character could show up there.
