The 'Suicide Squad' Trailer From The MTV Movie Awards Is A Goddamn Blast

Okay, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was something of a letdown—I didn’t hate it like many, but it wasn’t great. But that doesn’t mean I’ve given up on the DC Extended Universe just yet. I have hope for Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and that solo Batman joint they might give Ben Affleck. Oh yeah, and there’s Suicide Squad, which looks like a complete and total blast (something BvS most certainly is not). If you’re not already on this train, check out the new trailer that just dropped.

This latest look at the super villain team up hit during the MTV Movie Awards tonight, and it’s a rollicking good time. Swapping out Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” for Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me” and Sweet’s “Ballroom Blitz,” this trailer captures the same anarchic glee and irreverent mayhem as the earlier versions, but gives us some new glimpses of footage and the characters.

We get looks at Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Deadshot (Will Smith), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Slipknot (Adam Beach), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), and more. And of course, there’s the Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), who, once again, steals the show.

The plot of the David Ayer-directed Suicide Squad follows a group of incarcerated comic book villains who are recruited by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and the government to perform off-the-books black ops in the hope of getting some kind of clemency or reduced sentences. As you can see here, they get way more than they bargained for releasing the help of a bunch of violent, insane, potentially evil prisoners into the wild. Should be a damn fine time.

Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5.
