The precise moment when I think I can’t get any more excited
for the Mo Brothers’ Iko Uwais-starring actioner, Headshot,
they have to go and drop yet another insane, ass-kicking, bone-snapping,
face-punching trailer. Thanks, fellas.
I don’t know about the dubbing (but that’s something of a
secondary concern, isn’t it?) in this Headshot trailer from
The Playlist, but everything else is absolutely perfect. And by that I mean
The Raid star Iko Uwais just pummeling the living hell out
of everyone he encounters, that’s about as spot on as it gets.
The Mo Brothers (Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel, the duo
behind Killers and Macabre) have a great
eye for stylized cinematic violence. Visually, there’s more than enough to
differentiate Headshot from run of the mill actioners. We
get a handful of interesting stylistic flourishes and camera tricks. But they
also have the good sense to know when to step back and use what they have in
their cast.
Iko Uwais is one of the top movie martial artists in the world
right now, and he’s surrounded by a collection of other badasses. The call
sheet includes Julie Estelle and Very Tri Yulisman (Hammer Girl and Baseball
Bat Man from The Raid 2, Sunny Pang, Chelsea Islan, David
Hendrawan, and Zack Lee. The Mo Brothers are more than willing to pull away and
let them do what they do, and the fight scenes look phenomenal.
Plot wise, at least from what we know, Headshot
owes a tip of the cap to the Bourne movies, only with some
daddy issues thrown in. It does, after all, center on an amnesiac who wakes up
with no memory of who he is, but an ingrained ability to kick the living hell
out of anyone who crosses him. Let this be a reminder, never mess with an
amnesiac, when will people learn?
Here’s the synopsis:
HEADSHOT centers on a mysterious young man who, after months in a coma from a gunshot wound to the head, is nursed back to health by a young student-doctor, Ailin. Realizing that the man has lost his memory and identity, the two quickly grow closer, not realizing that behind their momentary peace lays danger. Soon their lives collide with a gang of dangerous criminals led by an enigmatic crime lord — and with every violent confrontation, his memory brings him closer to a dark truth as the lethal personality awakening within him starts to reveal who he really is.
After making a couple festival stops late last year (of
course it also made my Most Anticipated Movies of 2017 list),
Headshot is finally almost here. It hits theaters and iTunes
and everyone else on March 3.
