If you know one thing about me these days, it should be that I’m really, really, really psyched for Beyond Skyline. Like, it’s all I care about anymore. Admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of 2010’s Skyline, but this long-after-the-fact sequel continues to look completely fucking rad. Just watch this new U.K. trailer if you don’t’ believe me.
To be fair, if you put Iko Uwais, Frank Grillo, and Yayan Ruhian in any movie—or TV show or commercial or YouTube clip or random box on a random street corner—I’m going to stop and gawk at it like slack-jawed yokel.
That said, I’d watch the hell out of BeyondSkyline anyway. Giant alien fights, rockets blasting at spacecraft, and a bunch of other crazy shit. You had me at hello. But seriously, badasses fist-fighting aliens.
Set during the same incursion from the first film, but shown from a different perspective, Frank Grillo plays a grizzled, weary cop with a dead wife and a son who keeps running afoul of the law. (Is there any other kind of cop? And if so, should Frank Grillo ever play that kind of cop? The answer to both questions is no.) When said son gets sucked up into the belly of an invading alien ship, dear old dad embarks on an at-all-costs rescue mission that leads him to the (maybe Indonesian?) jungle, where he hooks up with Iko Uwais, who appears to be a kind of anti-alien freedom fighter for humanity and all that fun stuff.
Written and directed by Liam O’Donnell, who penned Skyline, Beyond Skyline is set to hit a few film festivals before rolling out later this year. Last we heard, it opens in Indonesia on November first. And according to this trailer, it shows at the Horror Channel FrightFest on October 28, gets a digital HD release on December 15, and hits DVD and Blu-ray on January 8, 2018.
Those are probably U.K. specific dates, which stands to reason as this is, in fact, a U.K. trailer and all. As far as a U.S. date, all I can currently find is a vague sometime in December, though it won’t shock me if it lines up in similar fashion.
