The 2020 Oscar Nominations Are Here

So, the Oscar nominations are here. I’m not trying to sound too cool, but I don’t really care. I barely pay attention the awards in the groups that I vote for, and as usual, the Academy Awards don’t share my particular taste. For the most part, the nominees are safe and expected and what they are.

I think some of these are great movies, I think others are terrible. I’ve seen most of these, others I have absolutely zero interest in ever watching—I’m sure Marriage Story is lovely and as good as people say, and I will probably never feel like that’s the movie I want to watch right now. There are also a few where I assume I accidentally watched a different movie than everyone else and that’s why I don’t understand the hype.

Of course, I’ll watch the ceremony on February 9, I always do. Hey, I’m a movie critic, it’s part of the job, and I like gawking at celebrities all gussied-up as much as the next guy.

Enough of all of this, here are the 2019 Academy Award nominations. Make of them what you will and remember, just because a movie is on this list doesn’t make it good, and just because it’s not, doesn’t make it bad. Love what you love.
