'Babylon' (2022) Movie Review

Margot Robbie dancing
Damien Chazelle’s latest opus, Babylon is a lot of movie. It might be the most movie of any movie of the year. At three-plus hours it’s a bloated and overflowing; an ode to  Hollywood excess that is, in itself, a Hollywood excess.

'La La Land' (2016) Movie Review

After Whiplash whipped up a frenzy, writer/director Damien Chazelle could do damn near anything he wanted. Helm a superhero movie? Probably could have done that. Tackle a big-budget summer blockbuster or weighty Oscar-bait drama? So many others have followed that path. But what does he do? He makes La La Land, a full-on throwback musical. And he absolutely kills it.

'La La Land' Belts Out A Dreamy New Trailer

I’m a sucker for musicals, and I love, love, love the fact that, after the massive critical success of Whiplash, when he could have done damn near anything he wanted, Damien Chazelle made a goddamn musical. And a musical starring the tag team of charm Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling to boot. La La Land hits theaters in December, and though it’s a few months off in the distance, it just delivered a dreamy new trailer.

Movie Review: '10 Cloverfield Lane'

Since it came out in 2008, there’s been chatter about a follow up to found footage creature feature Cloverfield. Just a few months back, the notoriously mysterious Bad Robot dropped a surprise trailer for something called 10 Cloverfield Lane (up to that point it had been developing under the working title Valencia), which appeared to be, at least tangentially, related to the earlier film. To be honest, it’s really a sequel in name only. While Cloverfield is big and bombastic—and, in my opinion, wildly overrated—10 Cloverfield Lane is a small, taut, claustrophobic psychological thriller with a serious Twilight Zone vibe. If it wasn’t for the title, there’s very little to connect it to its predecessor, but that doesn’t matter because it’s a damn good time.

First Trailer For Bad Robot's Mysterious '10 Cloverfield Lane,' Plus Poster And Release Date

Well, the Bad Robot mystery box is back at it again. There’s been talk of a secretive Cloverfield tie-in coming for some time, but we just got a new trailer, poster, and imminent release date for the project, apparently called 10 Cloverfield Lane (it was earlier known by the title Valencia). Who knows how this connects to the found footage monster movie, or if that’s just a tease, but this first look is something I’m totally into.
