'Project Power' Trailer: Jamie Foxx And Joseph Gordon-Levitt Team Up For Netflix's Latest Action Movie

Yeah, sure, why the hell not? I’d seriously never heard of Project Power, which sounds like a reality show about electrical engineers, until yesterday. But an action movie starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, about a drug that gives users five-minutes of a surprise power? (Maybe you’ll be invisible, maybe you’re super strong.) Movie Review: 'The Night Before' Is A Raucous New Holiday Classic

If traditional Christmas fare like Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life are, well, a bit too traditional for your tastes—by that I mean there’s little to no hard drug use, few if any curse words, and absolutely no close up images of genitals—then 2015 is your lucky year. This holiday season we have director Jonathan Levine’s The Night Before, and it is crude, crass, sweeter than you may expect, and, most importantly, really goddamn funny.

'The Walk' Movie Review

As a filmmaker, Robert Zemeckis is prone to making movies without a specific distinct antagonist—not all of them, mind you, but quite a few. In the likes of Cast Away, Flight, and Forest Gump, there is no single adversary. Instead, the protagonist must struggle against the state of the world, and in many cases, their quest is to change and shape their surroundings rather than evolve themselves. This is the category the populist director’s latest film, The Walk, falls into, and though the story takes its sweet time to get anywhere, by the time it arrives, the climax is nothing short of breathtaking.

'Looper' Movie Review

Writer/director Rian Johnson’s 2005 film “Brick” was a unique, inventive take on both hardboiled detective stories and teen drama. With his latest film, “Looper”, he takes on time travel, balancing numerous timelines, entwining stories from different eras, and even spinning a single character into multiple different personalities. This all sounds confusing, like it could easily become a jumbled mess of big ideas that wind up muddy and unclear. Lucky for you Johnson has an excellent sense for storytelling, and weaves all of the strands together into a clear narrative.

'Premium Rush' Movie Review

Hear that? That’s the sound of every bike messenger you’ve ever met getting a collective boner. While on paper writer/director David Koepp’s new movie “Premium Rush” sounds terrible, like they weren’t even trying to come up with a real narrative, the movie is actually a blast. It’s a hearty nod to 80’s underground sports movies like “Rad” and “Thrashin’”, though the most apt and obvious comparison is “Gleaming the Cube”. Those first two are ostensibly about the sports—BMX racing and skateboarding respectively—but “Gleaming the Cube” is a story where the characters just happen to be skate punks. “Premium Rush” is basically one long, extended chase scene, the primary characters simply happen to be New York City bike messengers.
