'God Is A Bullet' (2023) Movie Review

maika monroe with a bullet
When a Satanic cult murders his ex-wife and abducts his teenage daughter, small town detective Bob Hightower (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), more of a housecat than a badass lawman, must team up with Case Hardin (Maika Monroe), an escapee from said Satanic cult, to track them down and get her back. Along the way they acquire a lot of tattoos, kill some folks, and confront the savage void of humanity. So goes Nick Cassavetes’ latest film, God is a Bullet, based on the novel of the same name by mysterious pseudonymous author Boston Teran.

'Villains' (2019) Movie Review

Mickey (Bill SkarsgÄrd, It) and Jules (Maika Monroe, The Guest, It Follows) are a wannabe Bonnie and Clyde. Drug addled, wild, and in love, they plan to rob their way to Florida, with an overly idyllic dream of selling sea shells on the sea shore. Until they break into the wrong house. When circumstances dictate they invade the home of George (Jeffrey Donovan, Burn Notice) and Gloria (Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer), a stuffy, seemingly uptight couple, they get so much more than they bargained for and we find out who the real bad guys are. So goes Villains, the new horror-comedy from writer/directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen (Stake Land 2).

'Bokeh' (2017) Movie Review

Waking up one morning to find that everyone else in the world has disappeared has been a sci-fi staple since day one. Writing/directing duo Andrew Sullivan and Geoffrey Orthwein tackle this subgenre with their feature length debut, Bokeh, and though the film is amiable enough, thanks largely to its leads, it offers little in the way of freshness or insight and ultimately plays like an overlong Twilight Zone episode.

'Independence Day: Resurgence' (2016) Movie Review

Independence Day: Resurgence, the long-awaited (at least in years, I’m not sure if anyone has actually been waiting 20 years for this) sequel to Roland Emmerich’s 1996 alien invasion disaster flick, is nonsensical shit garbage. But it’s nonsensical shit garbage that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Movie Review: 'The 5th Wave'

The latest entry into the based-on-a-popular-young-adult-novel, teenage-girl-saves-the-world cinema sweepstakes, The 5th Wave, is a mixed bag. It’s roughly a third of total meh, a third stuff I legit liked, and a third the funniest shit I’ve ever seen. Not in an intentional way.

Dating Only Leads To Misery In This 'It Follows' Trailer

Horror movies have taught us many lessons over the years, like don’t go to camp, don’t go into the woods or caves, be nice to creepy old Gypsy ladies, if you hear an unexplained noise just leave, and many others. They’ve also taught us that nothing good will come from dating. You’ll probably get kidnapped, you’ll have to deal with an insane stalker, or, in the case of the upcoming It Follows, you’ll catch a sexually transmitted haunting. That’s a new twist, and as we get closer and closer to release, we’ve got another creepy new trailer to check out.
