'Deathstalker' (2025) Movie Review

deathstalker fighting a giant pig man
Within a span of a couple of months we’ve received remakes of early-1980s cult favorite swords-and-sorcery epics. First out of the gate was M.J. Bassett’s take on Red Sonja, and now we have Psycho Goreman mastermind Steven Kostanski’s version of Deathstalker. While the former knows it’s goofy, it plays things relatively straight. The latter, however, leans into the campiness with a winking, over-the-top glee.

'Psycho Goreman' (2020) Movie Review

big scary alien

A title like Psycho Goreman is certainly an eye-catcher. Then there’s the optics of a seven-foot-tall ancient alien killing machine playing the most high stakes game of dodgeball you’ve ever seen with two young kids. It’s only the fate of the planet and probably the galaxy that hang in the balance, NBD. The finished product from writer/director Steven Kostanski (The Void) resembles a Troma movie, but a Troma movie with heart and soul that’s actually as fun as those movies want to be.

'The Void' (2016) Movie Review

Throw John Carpenter, Clive Barker, and H.P. Lovecraft into a blender, hit the button, leave the room for a while, and the resulting concoction may well resemble The Void, the latest genre whoop-dee-doo from Canadian filmmaking/maniac collective Astron-6. Don’t expect the camp of Manborg, Astron-6 plays this relatively straight, but the same deep love is there. More than most throwbacks, this legitimately feels like a lost gem from 1983 someone dug out of the Salvation Army VHS bin thinking, “This looks rad.”

This 'The Void' Trailer May Warp Your Fragile Little Mind

Horror has been strong so far this year, what with Get Out, The Girl with All the Gifts, Split, and more hitting the airwaves, and it’s only going to get better. The Void has been on our radar since Fantastic Fest, and as it creeps ever closer to release, there’s a new domestic trailer to warp your fragile little mind.
