Japanese 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Trailer Has A Ton Of New Footage

Well, so much for my theory that we weren’t going to see anymore new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailers before the movie opens. This new Japanese trailer is making the rounds, and it’s full of new footage in a few juicy tidbits to pore over. Watch it below and we’ll get to the spoiler-y stuff after that.

First off, this is as fantastic as all the other trailers we’ve seen up to this point. I know there are those of you out there fond of pointing out that The Phantom Menace had awesome trailers, too, but watching these, it’s hard not to be moved and chilled and excited as all hell.

This time out, we get to see the first proper introduction between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega), and this really drives home that these two are going to be at the center of The Force Awakens. We also get what appears to be confirmation of a rumor that has been going around, that Rey’s parents dropped her on the desert planet Jakku for safe keeping and that she’s been waiting around for them to return, possibly for quite a while.

There’s a ton to sift through here, and I’m sure many of us will spend the next few days doing just that. We get more Chewbacca, some kickass explosions, lots of high action and adventure, a glimpse at C-3PO, more Leia, a shot of Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) with Leia, a ton of stunning footage, and much more. This is going to be a lot of fun.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens everywhere December 18.
