'Blood On Her Name' (2019) Movie Review

Matthew Pope’s Blood on Her Name drops us right into the middle of a situation we don’t fully understand and forces us to cobble together the puzzle. We see a battered woman, a pool of blood, a wrench, a body. And for the rest of the movie, we’re left to cobble together various bits and shards. Only just when we think we have an idea, we’re handed a new corner piece that changes the image completely.

'Blood Quantum': Watch The Red Band Trailer For Jeff Barnaby's First Nations Zombie Movie

People often complain about zombie movies. To be fair, there are a lot of trash zombie movies to wade through. But there’s a reason we keep looking, because when they’re good, they can be great. Once in a while a film comes along and reminds us what can be done within the subgenre confines and breathes a bit of new life into the walking dead. Think Train to Busan, Girl With All the Gifts, or The Night Eats the World, among others. By all accounts, Jeff Barnaby’s First Nations horror tale, Blood Quantum, is one such film. It’s finally getting a release, so check out the red band trailer.

'Candyman' Trailer: Say His Name, Be His Victim

Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman. For horror kids growing up in the 1990s, these were five of the most terrifying words you could here. Who among us didn’t gaze into a dimly lit mirror, say the name four times, and hesitate with a shiver before we squeaked out the fifth? We have a new Candyman on the way from producer Jordan Peele and director Nia DaCosta, and thus far, things have been kept relatively under wraps. But now the first trailer is here and it’s terrifying.

'Why Don't You Just Die!' Trailer: This Insane Russian Action Film Finally Has A U.S. Release Date

One of my most anticipated upcoming movies is the gonzo Russian action flick, Why Don’t  You Just Die! It played a few festivals and folks who have similar proclivities in this particular cinematic arena haven’t stopped raving about it. Well, it’s finally getting a release and there’s a new trailer. If you’re into bonkers, brutal, bloody action, this looks like the movie for you.

'The Lodge' (2019) Movie Review

Becoming a stepparent can be difficult and awkward. Especially when the kids in question blame you for their mother’s suicide. And when your childhood was marked by being the only survivor of a doomsday cult led by your father. And when you’re either losing your mind or being tormented sinister forces. Told you, it’s tricky.

'The Green Knight' Trailer: David Lowery Returns With Knights, Monsters, And Puppet Beheadings

Knights, monsters, puppet beheadings… you had me at puppet beheadings, The Green Knight. Director David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, A Ghost Story) once again teams with A24. This time for a fantasy epic based on the Arthurian legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. And this first trailer looks as fantastic as that sounds.

'VFW' (2019) Movie Review

Joe Begos’ VFW feels like it crawled out of a grimy, urine-soaked 1980s gutter. And I mean that in the best possible way. This mutant-punks-versus-grizzled-war-vets opus is so dirty and sweaty it practically has a smell. Think the scummy, hungover offspring of Assault on Precinct 13. Again, this is all good.

'The Witch: Subversion' Trailer: This Brutal South Korean Action Movie Hits Home Video Soon

Now that the Oscars are in the rearview (yay, Parasite), we can return our attention to our regularly scheduled programming: ultra-violent international genre cinema. To that end, here is the trailer for South Korean director Park Hoon-jung’s The Witch: Subversion. (Or The Witch: Part 1—The Subversion if you prefer.)

Here Are The 2020 Oscar Winners

In case you missed it, the Oscars were last night. Hollywood celebrated itself at the 92nd annual Academy Awards and, for the most part, it was fine.

This 'Spiral: From The Book Of Saw' Trailer Wants To Play A Game With Chris Rock

A Saw film written, produced, and starring Chris Rock, three years after the last film (and ten years after the one before), sounds like a weird proposition. But it’s happening, and what’s more, the first trailer for Spiral: From the Book of Saw looks really damn good. Check out that and an awesome new poster below.
