Marvel's 'Daredevil' Season 2 Is Adding An Important Character

The first season of Netflix’s Daredevil series was so good that it almost made me forget about the 2003 abomination (almost, that’s a wound that lingers). It was dark and gritty and got the characters right without just rehashing the comics; the action was, at times, as good as anything we’ve seen in years (that fight at the end of episode 2 is mind-blowing); and it delivered damn near everything I wanted as a lifelong fan of the Man Without Fear. Now it looks like Marvel is adding an important new character for season 2, Elektra.

According to Comic Book, two audition videos for Daredevil were posted on Vimeo. Though they were shortly deleted they reportedly featured women with “exotic features,” both reading for the part of Elektra Natchios. They performed two scenes, one where Elektra scares the crap out of a thug, and one where she flirts with Matt back in college, a moment hinted at when Foggy makes a crack about Matt and a beautiful Greek girl in season 1.

Fans of the comics know that Elektra, created by Frank Miller in the early ‘80s, is an assassin with close ties to the Hand, dresses in a skimpy red outfit, and uses two sais as her weapon of choice. She’s also one of the great loves of Matt Murdock/Daredevil’s life, which leads to some push and pull between her career and her feelings for him.

We’ll wait and see how this turns out, but she’s an important character to Daredevil, and it would be awesome to see her onscreen. And no matter who gets the part, she can’t be worse than Jennifer Garner.
