Marvel's 'Daredevil' Reveals Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin In These New Photos

There aren’t many actors who can play Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin, in the Marvel Universe. The man is a monster, just a behemoth that routinely kicks the crap out of superheroes with his bare hands and his evil schemes. We’ll have to wait until the April 10 premiere of Netflix’s Daredevil to see if Vincent D’Onofrio can truly pull it off, but in these new photos, he certainly looks the part.

You don’t always think of him as such, but D’Onofrio is a big dude, standing 6’4”, and he’s never been averse to packing on weight and bulking up for a role, which shows here. The late Michael Clarke Duncan played the character in the 2003 misfire, and while he had the physicality to pull off the role, he wound up way too cartoony and, like many others around him, they straight up missed the mark as far as the character goes.

Here’s what Netflix says about the Kingpin:

The shadowy figure behind organized crime in Hell’s Kitchen, Wilson Fisk has one mission in mind: to save Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter the cost. This immediately puts him at odds with Matt Murdock’s vigilante alter-ego, who also seeks to protect the city – but sees the criminal element as the root of the city’s problems. Central to this conflict is that Fisk truly believes he’s doing good for Hell’s Kitchen and at times may seem more of a hero to its people than Daredevil. Intelligent, complex and physically imposing, Wilson Fisk is the perfect foil for Matt Murdock, and the two will collide dramatically in Marvel’s Daredevil.

D’Onofrio definitely has the intensity and the menace to lay Kingpin, and if anyone can do the character right, we’re willing to bet he can.
