UPDATED: 'The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil' Trailer: Check Out The Cannes-Bound South Korean Thriller

UPDATE: There's another new version of the trailer for The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil. It's slightly longer and still in Korean, but it comes complete with the Cannes logo, so...cool.

ORIGINAL POST: It’s a simple concept, but one I’m pretty damn into: a gangster and a detective must team up and work together to catch an evil serial killer. Not sure why, but I don’t particularly care. That’s the basic plot of South Korean director Lee Won-tae’s The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil. Before it screens at the Cannes Film Festival, check out the first teaser below.

There’s obviously some lost nuance to this trailer if you don’t speak Korean, but the idea, the cast, the look and feel, it all adds up to something I want to see, plot details or no. If you do want more information on the story, here’s the synopsis:
Jang Dong-soo (Ma Dong-seok) is a gang boss in Cheonan. He becomes the target of serial killer Kang Kyung-Ho (Kim Sung-kyu). Jang Dong-soo survives and he is the only person to have survived from an attack by Kang Kyung-Ho. Detective Jung Tae-seok (Kim Moo-yul) hates organized crime members, but he works with Jang Dong-soo to catch serial killer Kang Kyung-ho.
This is only Lee Won-tae’s second directorial effort, but he’s enlisted some heavy hitters. This comes hot on the heels of the news that Ma Dong-seok (Train to Busan) joined Marvel’s The Eternals. He’s also making Train to Busan 2, so that’s cool. Kim Moo-yul showed up in Kim Jee-woon’s Illang: The Wolf Brigade last year. Kim Sung-kyu is best known for The Outlaws with Ma and co-star Heo Dong-won.

There’s no word on a global release for The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, but it was picked to make a special midnight debut at Cannes next month, so hopefully it will show up on the scene sometime later this year for those of us not in France in a few weeks.
