Fantasia 2021: 'Sweetie, You Won't Believe It' Movie Review
Three friends, a van full of inflatable sex dolls, and a fishing trip gone very, very wrong. What about a quartet of inept killers and a mysterious one-eyed man with a brutal vendetta? All wrapped in a bloody, violent, patently ridiculous, near-slapstick package? If that sounds like a fine time, add Yernar Nurgaliyev’s Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It to your mist-see list.

'Russian Raid' (2021) Movie Review
It’s been said that the craziest action movies from around the globe come from the places with the least regulation, thus the most freedom for performers to do insane things that are probably way, way too dangerous to actually attempt. Whether or not that’s true, there’s clearly some stuff going on in Russia right now. Last year brought us Why Don’t You Just Die! and because there’s always room for more, now we have Russian Raid to gawk at and kick us in the face.

'Sputnik' (2020) Movie Review
Leave it to Russia to drop a cold, tense sci-fi/horror hybrid that’s chilly and austere while also being all kinds of gooey and gross. Such is the way of Egor Abramenko’s Sputnik, a creeping dread creature feature and tale of institutional bureaucratic terror that regularly, and in clever fashion, pulls the rug out from under the viewer. All with unsettling monster effects peppered throughout.

'Bridge Of Spies' Movie Review
Steven Spielberg directing Tom Hanks in a Cold War-era
espionage thriller with a script by Joel and Ethan Coen; what about that
description is not worth getting excited about? That’s all most people really
need to hear about Bridge of Spies to decide whether or not
it’s a movie they want to see, and while it isn’t a bad film by any stretch of
the imagination, those stellar pieces never come together like they need to, or
like they could have.
