SIFF 2023: 'A Disturbance In The Force' Capsule Review

mark hamill in the star wars holiday special
Among fans, the Star Wars Holiday Special is a kind of myth, an artifact some have seen but that’s spoken of as a fable. In reality, it’s an ill-advised lunatic oddity aimed to cash-in on raging Star Wars mania that George Lucas tried to bury. Which just made people want it more.

D23: So Many Trailers From The Weekend

still photo from the willow trailer
D23, which his essentially Disney’s version of Comic-Con or similar pop culture brouhahas. It was a massive unveiling of news, trailers, casting, release dates, and all the related accouterments. As usual, it was a lot; some of it interesting, some of it less so. But we did get our first glimpses at a bunch of stuff that will dominate the bulk of the conversation for the next few years.

'The Book Of Boba Fett' Trailer: Star Wars Gives Everyone's Favorite Bounty Hunter His Own Series

boba fett on a throne
Personally, I’ve never understood the broad fascination with Boba Fett in Star Wars fandom. He looks tough and was badass in limited screen time in Empire. I’ve always felt the sparse, looming presence and few words went a long way to create an air of mystery and a certain mystique, and aside from that I've never found his appearances elsewhere particularly interesting. But his “end” in Return of the Jedi is so bumbling and unceremonious it’s laughable. But people are obsessed with him, so what do I know? Anyway, now Lucasfilm is attempting to retcon the bounty hunter into a good guy (or good-ish guy) and here’s the first trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett.

'The Mandalorian' Season 2 Trailer: This Is The Way (And Baby Yoda Is Still Cute)

Season One of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars series The Mandalorian was divisive. Some loved it, others hated it. I’m in the camp that dug the episodic frontier western-in-space vibe. A friend compared it to Kung Fu, and though I wouldn’t have gotten there on my own, it’s an apt comparison. Anyway, Season Two of The Mandalorian will now officially release on October 30 on Disney+, and this news comes with a shiny new trailer.

'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker': Watch A New Clip, TV Spot, And Nostalgic Video

There’s less than a month until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker takes over the world, so I imagine we’ll be getting a lot of this the next few weeks. And by “this,” I mean new clips, TV spots, and videos that poke at our nostalgia for Star Wars. And I’m here for every second of it. Check out all one of all three after the jump.

'The Mandalorian' Trailer Pumps Up The Werner Herzog

The first trailer for the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, was pretty damn great. You know what would make it better? Upping the Werner Herzog content, which is precisely what they did with this new trailer. Check it out below.

'Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker' Trailer Gives You One Last Look At Your Friends

UPDATED: Now with more poster!

ORIGINAL POST: Now that we’re getting a movie every year or so, plus the upcoming streaming shows and the glut of books and comics and other media, it’s a bit less special, but I will never not be excited for Star Wars movie. And the final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits me in all the feelings places. Check it out for yourself below.

'Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker' D23 Teaser Hints At Big Things To Come

Yeah, Disney owns everything and that hegemony has already had a negative impact on the movie world. (Films have been cancelled, they’ve shuttered arms that handle smaller films, it’s now more difficult if not impossible for rep theaters to screen certain titles, etc.) But I remain 100% on the hook for all things Star Wars and this latest look at Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker gives me chills.

'The Mandalorian' Trailer: The First Look At The 'Star Wars' Bounty Hunter Saga

“Bounty hunting is a complicated profession, don’t you agree?” So says the only dialogue spoken in the first trailer Disney+’s upcoming The Mandalorian, delivered with laconic, laissez faire style by the one and only Werner Herzog. And that’s all it needs. And I am all the damn way in. Check it out below.

'Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker' Trailer: The Saga Comes To An End

Anything happening today? No? Nothing much? Oh, yeah, the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX, THAT’S WHAT’S HAPPENING! It’s also called Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker apparently. There’s some stuff to chew on in this, that’s for sure. But for now, roll it!

'Solo: A Star Wars Story' (2018) Movie Review

Did we need a standalone Han Solo movie in the Star Wars universe? No, no we didn’t. But no one asked me, and in the grand scheme of things, unnecessary as it is, we could have done much worse than Solo: A Star Wars Story. Granted, we also could have done much better. It’s a wildly mixed bag, but with the utter chaos behind the scenes—the ousting of directors Chris Lord and Phil Miller 2/3 of the way through production, the recasting, the rewrites, the reshoots—worse was always on the table as a very real possibility.

This 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Trailer Assumes Everyone Will Betray You

When Lucasfilm first announced the Star WarsStory movies, I was down with the idea of standalone films that examine heretofore unexplored corners of that far, far away galaxy. There’s so much room to move and so many stories to tell, not just the tale of the Skywalker clan, their crew, and the Jedi. I’m not as into the idea of using them to rehash characters we already know (I sure as hell don’t want a Boba Fett movie). But despite what I want, we’re getting Solo: A Star Wars Story next month. And there’s another new trailer.

Watch A Crap Ton Of New 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Footage

“I’m just so tired of all these Star Wars.” Okay, I’m not, not at all. Nor did I have the titular line in Star Wars, which has always chaffed. We’re now less than a month away from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which I’m rather jazzed for. And just in case we didn’t already know that, we’re at the point where Lucasfilm is beating us about the head, neck, and face with promotional material. This includes a bunch of new TV spots.

This 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Behind The Scenes Video Is All About Wonder And Awe

I know people worry that now Disney owns Lucasfilm and they’re churning out an endless parade of Star Wars films, among other material, they’ll star to lose their magic and become commonplace, like superhero movies. And I know we’re only a few movies deep into the global takeover, but hot damn, we haven’t reached Star Wars fatigue yet. And as of right now, I continue to get chills every single time I watch new Star Wars footage, including this new behind-the-scenes video from Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Watch The 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Trailer, It Has Lightsabers And Porgs!

By now you’ve probably watched the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer, whether Rian Johnson wants you to or not, ordered your opening day tickets, and plowed head first into the Great Porg Debate of 2017. (Love them or hate them, they’re the new Ewoks, and your stance on the adorable little bastards will define who you are for generations to come.) But what the hell, why not watch the trailer again?

The 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Sizzle Reel Hits Me In All The Right Feelings Spots

This weekend kicks off the latest installment of a fairly new annual tradition: the onslaught of Star Wars promotional material leading up to a December release. It happened this way the last two years with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it’s going down that way again with Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Watch The 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Trailer

Hey, guess what? Star Wars: The Last Jedi just released it’s first trailer. You should watch it now. Like right now. And be bummed that it’s not December and we still have like two-thirds of a year until we can see the actual movie.

'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Has An Official Title

Looks like they’ve ditched the Episode moniker once and for all—not really surprising after last time. We still don’t know much of anything about the eighth Star Wars movie to tackle the family drama of the Skywalker clan, but now we know what to buy a ticket for later this year. And there’s a nifty new poster to boot.

'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' (2016) Movie Review

What are you doing? Why are you reading this? Odds are, you already know whether or not you’re going to see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Hell, most of you probably have tickets (or you’re not seeing it until 2017). You don’t need me to tell you whether it’s good or not. Go see Rogue One. Come back afterwards and we can discuss it then.

Want To Watch Two 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' International Trailers? Of Course You Do

It’s been a rough week for a lot of folks. People are looking for hope, and maybe, just maybe, two new international trailers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story can help with that a bit. Hope and resistance are what we've got to lean on right now, and like what we’ve seen thus far, they hammer that home hard once again.
