'The 355' (2022) Movie Review
The big hook for The 355 is the insane cast. Director Simon Kinberg assembled an epic level of talent that includes Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger, Penelope Cruz, Bingbing Fan, Sebastian Stan, Edgar Ramirez, and Jason Flemyng, all chasing after a MacGuffin box in a globetrotting spy caper. And the result it wildly just okay.

The 2019 Seattle Film Critics Society Award Winners
As 2019 winds to a close, before we look at what’s next, it’s a time for reflection. In movie terms, that means glancing back over the past year and taking stock of the films we saw. I’m fortunate enough to be a member of a couple groups of film critics, and one, the Seattle Film Critics Society, just revealed the results of the 2019 SFCS Awards.

'Little Monsters' (2019) Movie Review
I love about a third of Abe Forsythe’s zombie comedy Little Monsters. The middle act, from roughly the 25-minute mark to just shy of 60, blends horror and humor, heart and gore, in a way many movies that attempt such a synthesis fail to accomplish. It’s fun and gooey and delightful. While maybe not the freshest take on the undead, the image of Lupita Nyong’o in a bright yellow dress, beheading walking corpses with a shovel is enough to fill me with glee.

'Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker' D23 Teaser Hints At Big Things To Come
Yeah, Disney owns everything and that hegemony has already
had a negative impact on the movie world. (Films have been cancelled, they’ve
shuttered arms that handle smaller films, it’s now more difficult if not impossible
for rep theaters to screen certain titles, etc.) But I remain 100% on the hook
for all things Star Wars and this latest look at
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker gives me chills.

'Us' (2019) Movie Review
Following up any movie as culturally impactful, wildly popular, and generally acclaimed as Get Out is a daunting task, especially considering it was a debut feature. But Jordan Peele is back with Us, his sophomore horror yarn. I don’t want to pit it against his previous endeavor, they’re drastically different, but it is a creepy, atmospheric, weird-as-balls doppelganger horror. There’s a lot to unpack, but I think I love the way Peele’s brain works. It’s also as relevant as Hands Across America has been or ever will be.

'Black Panther' (2018) Movie Review
Movies obviously had a substantial impact on my life. I was
fortunate enough to grow up and see people who looked like me doing fantastic,
incredible, even relatively normal and mundane things on screen. Looking back
on it, at the films that spoke to me—Goonies, Stand
by Me, Red Dawn, and countless others—almost
everything I watched showed me a version of myself. I know what a presence that
had, I know how much that meant, personally, and I know that wasn’t the case
for everyone. But a lot of people, young people especially, are going to find a
similar sensation, to feel a similar weight, when they watch Black Panther.

Even More New 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Footage, This Is Getting Ridiculous
This is starting to get a little ridiculous. Not that I
don’t love getting new looks at Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but damn near every day we’re getting yet another glimpse of
as-yet unrevealed footage or behind-the-scenes peek (not to mention the upcoming
a capella tribute to Star Wars scheduled for the American
Music Awards broadcast?), and that includes today, with another
hot-off-the-presses TV spot.

Check Out These 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Photos
Star Wars Day, May 4th (“May the Fourth Be
With You”), was this week, and with so much from the beloved franchise going on
this year, there was a lot to celebrate. One of the biggest things to come out
was a spread of photos from Vanity Fair of the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. (We also learned that the second so-called standalone
“anthology” film, formerly to be directed by Fantastic Four
helmer Josh Trank, will be a Boba Fett origin story, which gives us mixed
feelings.) Check them out after the jump.
