For as bug-nuts crazy as Luc Besson’s nonsense sci-fi epic
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is visually,
there's no excuse for it being so fucking boring. And holy hell, is there a
scientific term for a total lack of chemistry? Because that's what stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne have. Their on-screen relationship is a distinct
kind of anti-charisma that’s like an anchor around the film’s neck.
We don’t get to see Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets until later this month, but hot damn, I’m
primed for some bananas space-crazy. But just in case you’re not in the same
boat, check out these five new clips.

The Fifth Element best hold onto their butts, because while
there are certainly parallel elements, Valerian looks more
like The Fifth Element jacked out of its mind on meth, with
a handful of mushrooms as a kicker.
Remember a few days ago when movies seemed way more
important than they do right now? Those were good times. (For the record, I
still believe film and books and music and art are vitally important—we will
need them desperately in the coming days—I’m just being hyperbolic, so go watch
movies like Moonlight and maybe give THIS ARTICLE a read.) The
world has apparently decided to remain turning, and Hollywood keeps kicking out
movies. And that includes Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a
Thousand Planets, and we’ve got the first trailer for your perusal.
It’s straight up bananas.
