If horror movies have taught us anything, it’s that chopping vegetables never ends well. Case in point, the first trailer for the upcoming The Dark and the Wicked. For that matter, when a rickety old phone rings, also leave it the hell alone. Check out the trailer below.
The Dark and the Wicked was originally supposed to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, but, like so much else, the current global pandemic ruined that plan. So now it will world premiere at the all-online Fantasia International Film Festival this Friday.
(FYI, I’m covering the fest and already watched the movie, and while I’m embargoed from saying much, it’s creepy as all hell. Watch out for a full review later this week.)
Here’s the synopsis:
On a secluded farm, a man is slowly dying. Bedridden and fighting through his final breaths, his wife is slowly succumbing to overwhelming grief. To help their mother and say goodbye to their father, siblings Louise (Marin Ireland) and Michael (Michael Abbott Jr.) return to their family farm. It doesn’t take long for them to see that something’s wrong with mom, though—something more than her heavy sorrow. Gradually, as their own grief mounts, Louise and Michael begin suffering from a darkness similar to their mother’s, marked by waking nightmares and a growing sense that something evil is taking over their family.
In addition to Ireland (Homeland) and Abbott Jr. (The Death of Dick Long), The Dark and the Wicked also stars Xander Berkeley (every movie ever), Julie Oliver-Touchstone (Preacher), and Tom Nowicki. Bryan Bertino (The Strangers) wrote and directed the film.
RLJE Films and Shudder will release The Dark and the Wicked November 6, 2020, when we should all still be in a good spooky mood following Halloween.
