'Synchronic' Trailer: 'The Endless' Directors Send Anthony Mackie And Jamie Dornan On A Time Traveling Drug Trip

Someone finally got the memo to give Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead more toys to play with and hell yes. Synchronic, the duo’s follow up to The Endless, has been one of our most anticipated movies since it made the festival rounds last year. It’s finally on the way, with an October 23 release date and a new trailer. If you’re not excited for this yet, watch the trailer. You will be.

I don’t even have much to say about this trailer other than I was already excited for Synchronic, and now I’m even more jazzed. This is dark and weird and twisted, in the vein of Benson and Moorhead’s earlier films.

Up to this point in their careers, they’ve managed to do a lot with a little, making the most of limited resources through sheer ingenuity, inventiveness, and storytelling chops. This looks shows off all of those elements, only ratcheted up a few notches—while not a big budget movie by industry standards, this definitely looks more well-funded than their previous endeavors. And from all appearances, they put those dollars to excellent use.

Here’s a synopsis:
When New Orleans paramedics and longtime best friends Steve (Anthony Mackie) and Dennis (Jamie Dornan) are called to a series of bizarre, gruesome accidents, they chalk it up to the mysterious new party drug found at the scene. But after Dennis’s oldest daughter suddenly disappears, Steve stumbles upon a terrifying truth about the supposed psychedelic that will challenge everything he knows about reality—and the flow of time itself.
I also appreciate that the filmmakers, despite wanting people to see their movie, recently urged audiences not to go to indoor movie theaters right now, thanks to that pesky global pandemic thing. Unlike some other filmmakers, it actually appears they care more about people and safety than their box office receipts and that’s a refreshing stance.

Synchronic opens in theaters and drive-ins on October 23. There’s also an VOD release planned, but not a specific date for that yet. Honestly though, Well Go USA is distributing this film, and if their track record is any indication, the VOD drop won’t be far behind what’s sure to be a limited theatrical release.
