'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness' (2022) Movie Review

doctor strange shooting fire
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness now has the distinction of being my least favorite chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s a plodding eyesore overflowing with shallow expository dialogue in lieu of narrative development. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) continues to be the least interesting Avenger, and even another strong performance from Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch can’t save the day. And the one moment I really enjoy, admittedly for petty personal reasons, I can’t talk about because it’s a major spoiler.

'Ingrid Goes West' (2017) Movie Review

Though tempting, calling Ingrid Goes West Single White Millennial is low-hanging fruit. While it feels like a natural impulse, and gives a broad-ish understanding of the plot, it doesn’t capture everything; there’s much more than that simple reductive comparison. While not a straight up horror movie, it’s a creepy, awkward dive into the perils of the social media junkie set.

'Wind River' (2017) Movie Review

Taylor Sheridan won acclaim for writing recent crime dramas Sicario and Hell or High Water, which afforded him the chance to direct his own script, Wind River. Beginning with the murder of a young woman on an isolated Wyoming Indian reservation, the story follows Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner), a tracker grieving his own loss, as he helps Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen), a newbie FBI agent, stalk the killer. As he says early on, he “hunts predators.”

'Captain America: Civil War' (2016) Movie Review

It’s at the point where I don’t even consider the next installment in the never-ending deluge of Marvel movies its own standalone feature. Along the path, I started looking at their whole cinematic universe as a big, occasional, episodic series, like how I watch Game of Thrones. Actually, it most closely resembles how I watch Sherlock, what with the long gaps, tangentially related storylines, and really long episodes.
