'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness' (2022) Movie Review

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness now has the distinction of being my least favorite chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s a plodding eyesore overflowing with shallow expository dialogue in lieu of narrative development. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) continues to be the least interesting Avenger, and even another strong performance from Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch can’t save the day. And the one moment I really enjoy, admittedly for petty personal reasons, I can’t talk about because it’s a major spoiler.

The 2016 Seattle Film Awards Winners

2016 saw the establishment of the Seattle Film Nerd Party Club (actually, it’s the Seattle Film Critics Society, but I’m going to keep using my preferred moniker until it sticks, so get used to it). And like every other critic’s group, we have our own awards. The nominations came down a while back, but today brings the announcement of the winners of the 2016 Seattle Film Awards (I have my fingers crossed for a live cable-access telecast hosted by the ghost of J.P. Patches for next year).

'Doctor Strange' (2016) Movie Review

Marvel movies take a great deal of (often very warranted) heat for being overly similar. It’s one thing to create an overarching aesthetic in a shared cinematic universe and lay out markers that identify a film as a piece of a larger work. It’s another when every film cranked out starts to feel like the same damn thing. The comic book giant’s latest endeavor, the mystical adventure Doctor Strange, is unique in that it both manages to buck this trend while falling face-first into most of the pitfalls.

San Diego Comic-Con Trailers: 'Wonder Woman,' 'Justice League,' 'Doctor Strange,' And More

Over the weekend I was out of town, not at San Diego Comic-Con (thanks, New Jersey, for the 10+ hours in the Newark airport). But the overcrowded festival of all things geeky raged on in my absence (to be fair, I have zero interest in ever attending—it’s all my least favorite things, crowds, lines, and heat). Studios did, however, drop a shit ton of cool news about big upcoming features, including an array of trailers. I’ve been up for more than 36 hours, I’ve got a body full of caffeine, so what the hell, lets recap the best of the bunch.

The First 'Doctor Strange' Trailer Is Psychedelic And Full Of Magic

Marvel takes a lot of flack for their movies being a bit same-y, which isn’t an entirely unfounded complaint. They’ve taken steps to mix things up lately, most notably with Guardians of the Galaxy, but later this year they’re going to take things in an entirely different direction with Doctor Strange. And if you need proof that this is like nothing we’ve witnessed thus far in the MCU, check out the new trailer that just hit the airwaves.
