'Wolfman's Got Nards' (2018) Movie Review

As a horror-obsessed kid, I adored The Monster Squad. I was ten when it came out in 1987 and it falls into a category of movies like The Goonies and a handful of others that are about kids, and aimed at kids, but that don’t marginalize them, which was always an issue I had with this type of film growing up. Here, the young characters are smart, capable, and complicated; in legitimate peril; and don’t rely on the parents swooping in at the last minute to save the day—the kids are the heroes and have the heroic moments they earn. Among other things, this is what I loved about it. This is basically a long-winded way of saying Andre Gower’s documentary, Wolman’s Got Nards, is 100% made for me.

New 'The Predator' Poster Is One Ugly Mother...

I’m not the biggest fans of remakes and reboots and reimaginings in general, especially of movies I love, and John “Die Hard” McTiernan’s 1987 action classic Predator is a formative force in my life. But since another one is happening, the fact that it’s in the capable hands of Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and who actually appeared in Predator) and Fred Dekker (Monster Squad, Night of the Creeps), is about as comfortable as I’ll get. The long-in-the-works project just dropped a new poster and a bit of a name tweak.

I’m one of the few people who seems to enjoy Predators. Sure, it’s not Predator, nor is it even Predator 2, but it’s a damn sight better than either of the Alien vs. Predator movies we were subjected to. Last year we learned that Shane Black is writing and directing a new Predator movie, which is promising for a number of reasons, but the new film plans to reinvent and reinvigorate the franchise.
