'Demonic' (2021) Movie Review
Primarily known for politically minded science fiction films like District 9 and Elysium, with his latest film, Demonic, writer/director Neill Blomkamp dives into low(ish)-budget horror. The results of this attempt to revive a career that started on a high-note and has flagged somewhat since, are mixed. It has cool ideas, even if they’re not always capitalized on, more than a couple missed opportunities, a strong visual sense, and a heavier emphasis on ominous mood and atmosphere rather than outright scares.

Watch Clive Owen Drive Angry In Neill Blomkamp Directed Short 'The Escape'
Sure, his last couple of movies haven’t been great
(Elysium was less than stellar, and who the hell thought it
was a good idea to put Die Antwoord in a movie about an adorable robot?), but at
least visually, Neill Blomkamp is still one of the most exciting filmmakers out
there right now. Though the Alien movie he’s been developing
got back-burnered, the South African director has a quick-hitter for us to
enjoy, the short, BMW-produced actioner The Escape. Check it
out below.

Neill Blomkamp And Simon Kinberg To Turn Incredible Sci-Fi Short 'Leviathan' Into A Feature
A while back, a proof of concept video for Ruairi Robinson’s
(The Last Days on Mars) incredible looking sci-fi
Leviathan made the rounds. All you could do was gape at
awesome looking flying beast monsters and wish with every fiber of your being
that this was a real movie. And now it’s going to be, and it’s bringing a
couple of big Hollywood names along for the ride.
