'Red Sonja' (2025) Movie Review

matilda lutz with a sword in a burning forest
There’s been talk of a new Red Sonja movie for what feels like forever. Multiple stars and high-profile filmmakers have been attached in one form or another, until it seemed like it was destined to languish just out of reach in development hell. It happens often that a movie, usually a major studio production, aims to kick off a franchise, only for it to be a no-go. 'Hard Target 2' (2016) Movie Review

I’ve long maintained that Hard Target, while not John Woo’s best American movie, is the most reminiscent of his legendary Hong Kong work—the most similar in size, scope, and scale. 'Hard Target 2' Is Real, Has Scott Adkins, And Looks Badass, Watch The Trailer Now

To this day, I still maintain that Hard Target, yes, the one with Jean-Claude Van Damme sporting that Jheri curl mullet, is John Woo’s best American film. If nothing else, it’s the most similar to the classics he built his reputation on, like Hard Boiled, The Killer, and A Better Tomorrow. Talk of Hard Target 2 swirled around last year, and apparently that was more than internet hearsay, as it just dropped a trailer. And against all odds, it looks awesome.
