Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One represents
the ultimate fanboy wish-fulfillment dream. It’s a world here all of that obscure
accumulated knowledge they’ve (we) spent years collecting, collating, and
committing to memory actually means something, is actually important, and saves
the world and gets the girl. While it’s remarkably constructed, and contains
moments of true awe and Spielberg-ian wonder, the film alternates between
reasonable entertainment and obnoxious tedium.

'The Post' (2017) Movie Review
Steven Spielberg’s The Post doesn’t
surprise anyone. One, it tells a famous, well-known story; two, it’s obvious
from moment one where it’s heading; and three, it’s not trying to pull a
Houdini and execute any startling narrative gymnastics. It also won’t surprise
anyone that The Post is excellent, occasionally thrilling,
and watching Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Spielberg together is like watching a
goddamn symphony.

'The BFG' (2016) Movie Review
Phenomenally beautiful to look at in that effortless,
stunning way Steven Spielberg does so much better than everyone else and that
appears so easy and natural, The BFG is as dull as a pile of
sopping wet cardboard.

'Bridge Of Spies' Movie Review
Steven Spielberg directing Tom Hanks in a Cold War-era
espionage thriller with a script by Joel and Ethan Coen; what about that
description is not worth getting excited about? That’s all most people really
need to hear about Bridge of Spies to decide whether or not
it’s a movie they want to see, and while it isn’t a bad film by any stretch of
the imagination, those stellar pieces never come together like they need to, or
like they could have.
