'John Wick 2' Is Happening, Yeah, He's Thinking He's Back

If you read any of my nonsense at all, you probably know that I have very strong feelings about the major motion picture JohnWick. The Keanu Reeves-starring revenge flick was hands down my favorite movie of 2014, and I use every opportunity to remind people of the fact that it may be the best action movie of the last decade. (It also his DVD/Blu-ray yesterday, so if you still haven’t seen it, you now have no excuse other than you suck.) But it might not be the last we see of the titular badass, as the ball has started rolling on John Wick 2. Maybe he has a cat we didn't know about.

Sequels are problematic and often unnecessary, but this is one I can get behind. Talking to Movies.com, directors and former stunt performers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch—their background in stunts is why they’re so good in John Wick, as well as why the action is so perfectly staged—revealed that development has indeed started. Stahelski says:

We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original. It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important. If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it. Look at any great action star, whether it’s Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson or Robert Downey Jr., pick a name, you love the guy first. Good action, bad action, you just love them in action. So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we’ll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome.

For his part, Reeves has also indicated that he would be down to play the former hitman pulled back into his former life by the press of circumstances beyond his control. And that sounds just dandy to us. They can make as many of these movies as they want and I’ll keep going to see them, because it’s like they made the first movie just for me. Seriously, it’s like they mined my subconscious and blasted it across the silver screen.

Just in case you need to be reminded just how good John Wick is, watch this scene where Reeves dismantles and entire nightclub. You’re welcome.
