If you pay attention to movies at all, you probably noticed
the Academy Awards happened last night. Love them, hate them, shrug at them, here
are the winners.

The 2017 Seattle Film Critics Society Award Winners
It’s award season, mother fuckers! I’m fortunate enough to
be part of the inaugural class of the Seattle Film Critics Society (they shot
down my name suggestion: Seattle Movie Nerd Party Club). We’ve voted on and handed
out awards a few times under this moniker, but before now it’s been a loose
collection of like-minded film weirdos, not an actual group with like officers,
by-laws, and things like that. I wrote about the nominees the other day, but now
the final votes have been tallied and the winners are here. Drumroll please…

The 2017 Seattle Film Critics Society Awards Nominations
As 2017 wraps up (high fives to everyone for making it
through this clusterfuck of a year!) it’s that time where groups and guilds and
collections of people who watch a lot of movies get together to vote for the
best of the year. I’m fortunate enough to be a part of a couple of these groups
(because my opinion is the best one, obviously), including the newly minted
Seattle Film Critics Society.

Animated 'Blade Runner: 2049' Prequel Is Gorgeous And Violent
Okay, here’s your last homework assignment for Denis Villeneuve’s
Blade Runner 2049, at least beyond, you know, rewatching
your preferred version of Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic. Early reviews are
just hitting the airwaves and are overwhelmingly positive—not to make it harder
to keep expectations in check or anything. But most of us still have a while to
wait, but take a few minutes to gawk at the third and final prequel short.

This 'Blade Runner 2049' Prequel Short Has Dave Bautista Waxing Philosophical And Wrecking Dudes
Admittedly, I enjoy movies with large, sprawling mythologies
that don’t always stick to the confines of what we see on screen in a theater. I
also often enjoy promotional build up to movies that do things a little
differently, that add context or additional value to the movie. What I don’t
like is when that same supplementary material becomes required reading for said
movie. I don’t know that this is the case for Blade Runner 2049, but with a new prequel short, it’s starting to feel that way.
(You can read my more in-depth thoughts on the matter HERE.) That said, it’s
still pretty cool. Check it out below.

'Blade Runner 2049' Short Film Examines Replicant History And Jared Leto's Monotone
It’s been a few years since Ridley Scott dropped Blade
Runner in 1982. By the time Blade Runner 2049 hits
in October, that’s 35 years. The first film takes place in the still-distant
future of 2019, while the long-gestating sequel follows a similar timeline to
reality, and occurs 30 later, hence the numerical title. Obviously, that leaves
a lot of ground to cover in between the two. To fill in some gaps, check out a short
new prequel, Nexus: 2036.

'Blade Runner 2049' Trailer: Guess What? This Movie Still Looks Incredible
As much as belong to the camp that Ridley Scott’s 1982
sci-fi classic Blade Runner doesn’t need a sequel—it’s a
goddamned masterpiece—I’ll cop to being all kinds of jazzed for Blade Runner 2049. It looks weird and mysterious and like an extension of
the original atmospherically, aesthetically, and tonally. Hell, even the score
sounds like an inevitable evolution of what came before. We have to wait until
October to actually see it, but this majestic new trailer should keep us
occupied for a few minutes.

'Blade Runner 2049' Trailer: Ryan Gosling Wants To Ask Harrison Ford Some Questions
I’m admittedly skeptical about things like sequels to
game-changing classics that arrive, I don’t know, let’s say 35 years after the original.
In most cases, I’d rather Hollywood leave well enough alone, but since that’s
never going to happen, at least we can hope these movies are good. And holy
shit, does Blade Runner 2049 look good. Check out the new
trailer below. Any lingering skepticism (very little at this point) I had just
got blown to dust.

It's Going To Be Good: 25 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2017
2016 is in the books and took with it countless celebrities,
lingering notions of human decency, and my expectations of
not being annihilated in a nuclear war started by a buffoon’s
Twitter account. But as we prepare for the impending Mad Max/Red Dawn-style apocalypse, we still have a ton
of movies to look forward to between now and imminent death. And here are the
ones flying high on my radar.

The First 'Blade Runner 2049' Trailer Is Spectacular
Okay, I’m going to come right out and say this: Denis Villeneuve
should only make science fiction movies from now on. Arrival
is going to land very near the apex of my top movies of 2016 list, and though
it’s less than two-minutes-long, the first trailer for the long-in-the-works
Blade Runner 2049 looks spectacular.
