It’s that time of year again. That time where, in Seattle
anyway, a bunch of like-minded horror enthusiast weirdos spend 12 hours of a (possibly)
lovely spring weekend day hunkered down inside like mole folk; drinking beer;
and watching a ridiculous amount of strange, twisted, and otherwise warped
movies. Yes, you guessed it, it’s the annual BoneBat Comedy of HorrorsFilm Festival.

'Blade Runner 2049' Short Film Examines Replicant History And Jared Leto's Monotone
It’s been a few years since Ridley Scott dropped Blade
Runner in 1982. By the time Blade Runner 2049 hits
in October, that’s 35 years. The first film takes place in the still-distant
future of 2019, while the long-gestating sequel follows a similar timeline to
reality, and occurs 30 later, hence the numerical title. Obviously, that leaves
a lot of ground to cover in between the two. To fill in some gaps, check out a short
new prequel, Nexus: 2036.

Watch Clive Owen Drive Angry In Neill Blomkamp Directed Short 'The Escape'
Sure, his last couple of movies haven’t been great
(Elysium was less than stellar, and who the hell thought it
was a good idea to put Die Antwoord in a movie about an adorable robot?), but at
least visually, Neill Blomkamp is still one of the most exciting filmmakers out
there right now. Though the Alien movie he’s been developing
got back-burnered, the South African director has a quick-hitter for us to
enjoy, the short, BMW-produced actioner The Escape. Check it
out below.

SIFF 2016: 'WTF?!' Shorts
Short films are a notoriously tricky form. For every
fantastic offering, you have to wade through a sea of less-than-stellar dreck.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, the Seattle International Film Festival runs
their annual shorts program, and while the WTF segment has
its share of problems, it was, by and large, a strong collection. And every title
on the docket certainly lives up to the moniker.

'The Raid' Director Made A Badass Short Film, You Need To Watch It Right Now
You’re going to want to stop whatever your doing, because
whatever you’re currently involved in, with very few exceptions, is not as
awesome as a new short film from Gareth Evans. The director of TheRaid and The Raid 2 dropped a badass five-minute
video, and if that’s enough to get you to check it out, what are you even doing
here?

The 'Portal To Hell!!!' Trailer Is Here, Stop What You're Doing And Watch Roddy Piper's Final Performance
We lost a true giant recently when professional wrestler
turned action badass “Rowdy” Roddy Piper passed away. I didn’t even write about
it because I couldn’t figure out how to quantify the impact movies like
They Live and Hell Comes to Frogtown, not
to mention his career in the squared circle, had on me in words. Fortunately
for fans everywhere, he has one last film on the way, and it’s a doozy: be
battles the ancient evil that is Cthulhu. And now the first trailer for horror
short Portal to Hell!!! has arrived to make you both ecstatically
happy and brutally sad at the same time.

'Loom' Short Sci-Fi Film From Luke Scott
An established commercial director in his own right, Luke
Scott is stepping into the realm long-roamed by his famous father, Ridley
Scott. That realm happens to be science fiction film, and from the look and
feel of his short genre thriller, Loom, Luke has inherited a
certain aesthetic sensibility and acumen from dear old dad.
