'Copshop' (2021) Movie Review

Alexis Louder in Copshop
Directed by Joe Carnahan (The Grey) and fronted by Gerard Butler (Den of Thieves) and Frank Grillo (The Purge: Anarchy), it’s easy to envision what a movie titled Copshop is likely to deliver. If you expect and hope for a violent, irreverent slice of tough-guy action thriller, you will not be disappointed.

'Greenland' Trailer: Gerard Butler Fights A Planet-Killing Comet

Oh my, this is just the kind of pick me up I needed today. Given the chaotic, unstable state of the world—what with entitled assholes refusing to stay home or wear masks to prevent a global pandemic and Black people begging the police not to murder them—many may not want to watch an apocalyptic, end-of-the-world movie. I, however, say bring that shit on. Especially when it stars Gerard Butler. And in that spirit, here is the first trailer for the Gerard-Butler-fights-a-planet-killing-comet movie, Greenland. Yeah, that’s the good stuff.

'Angel Has Fallen' (2019) Movie Review

Outside of a few violent charms, Olympus Has Fallen isn’t very good. London Has Fallen, however, captures that mid-80s Cannon Films action template, warts and all—it’s ugly, mean, jingoistic, and reprehensible, and I adore the head-stabby carnage of it all. So Angel Has Fallen, the third film in Gerard Butler’s Mike Banning trilogy, has a lot to live up to IMO. While it’s hits a few action high points, it’s ultimately a mixed bag and a shrug.

The 'Angel Has Fallen' Trailer Is Here To Amuse Me And Only Me

gerard butler being arrested

So, London Has Fallen is mean and dumb and as chest-thumpingly numb-skulled and jingoistic a movie as has been produced in years. And I love it. (Though oddly, not a fan of the first film in the series, Olympus Has Fallen.) I’m not sure what to expect from the follow-up, Angel Has Fallen, but you’re damn right I’m excited. I might be the only one. (Not true, actually, I know at least one other person more pumped up than I am.) The first trailer has arrived and I’m here for it all day.

'The Villainess' Director Teams Up With Gerard Butler For Action/Sci-Fi Comic Adaptation 'Afterburn'

If you read this site on any sort of regular basis, you probably know my affection for both Gerard Butler and Asian action cinema. And now the two find themselves on a collision course. South Korean director Jung Byung-gil, who helmed last year’s The Villainess, will team up with GB to adapt the Red 5 Comics sci-fi miniseries Afterburn. Throwing sci-fi into the mix only sweetens the deal.

'Den Of Thieves' (2018) Movie Review

Den of Thieves is just my kind of trash. The directorial debut of London has Fallen writer Christian Gudegast, the sprawling heist film plays like a bargain bin version of Michael Mann’s 1995 classic Heat. Only more macho. Which is impressive, given Heat is already jacked up on testosterone and fragile male egos.

'Den Of Thieves' Trailer Is The Most Macho Thing You'll See All Day

I should know better by now, I really should, but I can’t help but be irrationally excited for Den of Thieves. I know, I know, it’s a mid-January action movie that looks dumb as shit and macho beyond belief, but it also looks 100% my jam. Watching this new trailer, I can’t help myself, I giggled and clapped the entire time.

This 'Den Of Thieves' Trailer Looks Like Discount Bin 'Heat'

Why did it take me two full days to watch this Den of Thieves trailer? It’s everything I like: gritty no-frills action, bank robbers, a brutally generic name, Gerard Butler, O’Shea Jackson, a dude from The Wire (Pablo Schreiber), and a rapper (50 Cent). And it’s the guy who wrote London Has Fallen and A Man Apart making his directorial debut. And it looks like clearance-sale Heat. All of which means it’s just my speed. I knew it was out there, I just slept on it. But don’t worry, I rectified this grievous oversight and all is right with the world.

'London Has Fallen' Is Getting A Sequel And I May Be The Only One Who's Excited

I hope you’re still thirsty as fuck, I know I am. I’m generally in the minority on this one, but 2016’s London Has Fallen is awesome. Which is extra impressive, given that the predecessor, Olympus Has Fallen, is such a shrug. But London is a mean, nasty, jingoistic, stripped-down ‘80s style actioner. And bless Millennium Films’ little heart, there’s going to be more, as the studio just okayed Angel Has Fallen, which has a director and everything.

This 'Geostorm' Trailer Is Absurd And Everything That's Right With The World

Ohmygod Ohmygod Ohmygod Ohmygod Ohmygod Ohmygod Ohmygod!!! I rarely use exclamation points, let alone three, but holy Christ on a fucking crutch, I just watched the Geostorm trailer and random punctuation all I manage at the moment. Watch it now, we’ll discuss the matter at hand after it pummels your mind about for a few minutes.

Movie Review: 'London Has Fallen'

Back in 2013, Antoine Fuqua teamed up with Gerard Butler for a gritty take on what would happen if the White House was attacked by terrorists with Olympus Has Fallen—a few months later we got the more humorous, bro-tastic take on the same story, with Channing Tatum’s White House Down. Well, it wasn’t enough for the White House to go down, and now we have the follow up, London HasFallen. Handed off to Snabba Cash 2 director Babak Najafi, London Has Fallen is a ridiculous, direct-to-video-style blast of full frontal action. If a DTV movie had the budget to mostly level one of the major metropolises in the world, that’s what this is. So much better than the first movie, this knows exactly what it is and what its audience wants, and delivers with gusto and glee.

"Shit's About To Get Stabby" In Crazy New 'London Has Fallen' TV Spot

“Shit’s about to get stabby.” That sounds like the kind of marketing campaign I would come up with, or at least how I would describe a movie I was trying to get a friend to go see. London Has Fallen certainly appears to know its audience, which is basically me, and this new NSFW TV spot is the pitch perfect way to get me to see your damn movie.

Movie Review: 'Gods Of Egypt'

Alex Proyas’ new film, Gods of Egypt, is straight up bonkers. That’s the impression given by the trailers and TV spots and the overall, weird-as-shit aesthetic, but nothing, not the promotional material, not even a handful of strong LSD, will prepare you for the insanity that unfurls before your eyes.

'London Has Fallen' Trailer Blows The Holy Hell Out Of The U.K.

If you’re surprised that the 2013 Whitehouse-under-siege actioner Olympus Has Fallen is getting a sequel, you’re not alone, but that doesn’t mean London Has Fallen isn’t happening. The Gerard Butler-starring follow up recently got delayed and pushed to a less-than-optimal release date, but it still sounds right up our alley, a point driven home by this quick new teaser trailer.
