'The Bricklayer' (2024) Movie Review

aaron eckhart in the bricklayer
It makes a great deal of sense that Renny Harlin’s The Bricklayer was once earmarked as a Gerard Butler vehicle. Butler remains a producer, while Aaron Eckhart takes the role of former spy Steve Vail, and does a passable growly, grumble-voiced tough-guy mutter. Though admittedly, without Gerry’s sweaty macho charisma, the finished product loses some oomph. The plot is pure dumbed-down airport-novel espionage with little investment, stakes, or suspense, but thanks to a brisk pace and action that whips damn hard, this offers up an entertaining thriller that scratches a specific itch.

'Angel Has Fallen' (2019) Movie Review

Outside of a few violent charms, Olympus Has Fallen isn’t very good. London Has Fallen, however, captures that mid-80s Cannon Films action template, warts and all—it’s ugly, mean, jingoistic, and reprehensible, and I adore the head-stabby carnage of it all. So Angel Has Fallen, the third film in Gerard Butler’s Mike Banning trilogy, has a lot to live up to IMO. While it’s hits a few action high points, it’s ultimately a mixed bag and a shrug.

The 'Angel Has Fallen' Trailer Is Here To Amuse Me And Only Me

gerard butler being arrested

So, London Has Fallen is mean and dumb and as chest-thumpingly numb-skulled and jingoistic a movie as has been produced in years. And I love it. (Though oddly, not a fan of the first film in the series, Olympus Has Fallen.) I’m not sure what to expect from the follow-up, Angel Has Fallen, but you’re damn right I’m excited. I might be the only one. (Not true, actually, I know at least one other person more pumped up than I am.) The first trailer has arrived and I’m here for it all day.

Oops, Anne Hathaway Got Drunk And Picked Up A Giant Monster In This 'Colossal' Trailer

Don’t you hate it when you wake up from a night of hard partying, hung over, vaguely smelly, and in control of a massive monster wreaking havoc on the other side of the world? Oh wait, maybe that only happens to Anne Hathaway in Nacho Vigalondo’s Colossal. I’d swear that happened to me once, but it may just be this new trailer.
