One element fans often cite about what makes the Joker such a compelling character is that, for the most part, he lacks an origin story. Sure, there have been a few attempts to craft a history, but by and large, he lacks context and motivation and formative experiences. What we see is what we get, just his actions, often without obvious logic or reason. That’s going to change somewhat in Todd Phillips’ upcoming Joker, which stars a very committed Joaquin Phoenix in a standalone tale of the Clown Prince of Crime’s beginnings. Set to debut on the fall festival circuit soon, check out the final trailer below.

The First 'Joker' Trailer Puts On A Happy Face
The old adage goes, there’s a fine line between comedy and tragedy, that the difference is a matter of perspective. And from what we see in the first trailer for Todd Phillips’ Joaquin Phoenix-starring Joker, that appears to be the underlying conceit for the origin story of the Clown Prince of Crime. The first trailer dropped this morning, and this certainly doesn’t feel like your typical comic book movie. Watch it below.

'Slice' Trailer: Pizza, Werewolves, A Portal To Hell, And Chance The Rapper

You can’t never say A24 does the same thing every time out
of the gate. Just when you think you have the boutique studio pegged, they drop
a crazy-ass genre banger like Hereditary, a Muay Thai prison drama
in the vein of A Prayer Before Dawn, or, you know, a cheeky pizza delivery/werewolf/portal-to-hell
horror yarn. Just watch the trailer for Slice below, it’ll
all make sense. Well, sort of.

'Deadpool 2' Trailer Has Poop Jokes And X-Force
I legitimately enjoyed Deadpool, more
than I expected to. I wasn’t sure how it would translate, if they would go all
in on the filth and violence, but they did. And the result is a fun,
foul-mouthed superhero joint. Even so, I haven’t been able to work up one iota
of enthusiasm for Deadpool 2. And I should. David Leitch
directed John Wick, the best modern action movie, and
Atomic Blonde, which is solid. It has Josh Brolin, who I’ve
loved since Thrashin’; Zazie Beetz, who rules; Terry Crews; and
the kid from Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Regardless of how I
feel, the Merc with the Mouth is coming back, and there’s a new trailer, and it
does little to get my juices flowing.
