'Cuckoo' (2024) Movie Review

hunter schafer hiding
Birds sure are creepy little fuckers, aren’t they? Dinosaur-looking sons of bitches. At least that’s what Cuckoo would have you believe. Though Luz writer/director Tilman Singer’s latest off-kilter horror offering definitely keeps you guessing as to the why of the lingering avian motif, it ultimately pays off in wild ways, taking unusual paths to get there.

'The Rental' (2020) Movie Review

The Rental doesn’t have a whit of originality in its 89 minutes. This is a beat for beat, paint-by-number horror thriller. However, it does what it does well enough, knows not to overstay its welcome, and a fantastic cast ensures the film at least remains watchable throughout.

'The Rental' Trailer: Dave Franco's Directorial Debut Looks Promisingly Creepy

Best known for playing sarcastic comedy sidekicks and for being the younger brother of someone more famous, Dave Franco decided to show off another side. He’s about to make his directorial debut with the horror thriller The Rental, which he also co-wrote with indie staple Joe Swanberg. When actors step behind the camera it’s often a mixed bag, but with this first trailer, The Rental definitely looks promising.

This 'Apostle' Trailer Has Cults, Revenge, And Head-Drilling

Over the next few weeks, Netflix will release two of my most-anticipated movies of 2018, movies I’ve been frothing at the mouth for since I first heard they exist. They drop Jeremy Saulnier’s Hold the Dark this month, and in October, they release Apostle, the latest film from The Raid mastermind Gareth Evans. That doesn’t hit until October, but as if Evans’ very involvement doesn’t land this at the top of your must-watch list, this first trailer should do the trick.

Gareth Evans' Actioner 'Apostle' Goes To Church In First Image

After Merantau, The Raid, The Raid 2, and even that short, I’m completely in the bag for anything Gareth Evans does next. That especially includes his upcoming Apostle, which, in addition to being a Gareth Evans movie, also has an awesome cast and sounds freaking rad. It’s still off in the distant future, but now we have our first look at Apostle. Check it out after the jump.

Oops, Anne Hathaway Got Drunk And Picked Up A Giant Monster In This 'Colossal' Trailer

Don’t you hate it when you wake up from a night of hard partying, hung over, vaguely smelly, and in control of a massive monster wreaking havoc on the other side of the world? Oh wait, maybe that only happens to Anne Hathaway in Nacho Vigalondo’s Colossal. I’d swear that happened to me once, but it may just be this new trailer.

'Colossal' Trailer: Anne Hathaway Has A Giant Monster

I’ve been over-the-moon psyched for Colossal every since hearing the words “Nacho Vigalondo” and “giant monster movie” in the same sentence. Then the Spanish director put together a top-tier cast—Anne Hathaway, who I’m meh about, and Dan Stevens, who I’m very, very not meh about. Word out of the TIFF premiere last fall confirmed my excitement was justified, and the first trailer is right in my wheelhouse.

'Apostle': 'The Raid' Director Gareth Evans Casts Handsome Badass Dan Steven In Period Actioner

A Gareth Evans movie is always good news. It’s been too long since he pummeled us all about the head and neck with The Raid and The Raid 2 (and, of course, Merantau). But he’s back with a new project in the works called Apostle, and as if that’s not enough, he’s bringing badass leading man Dan Stevens along for the ride.
