2014's Best Sci-Fi Movies

Ticket sales at the box office may have been at a 20-year low in 2014, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t anything worth seeing. I’m a firm believer that, no matter the state of the industry, there will always be people making exciting, interesting films, you just might have to look for them. Regardless of what this means for studios and their bottom lines, sci-fi fans had a lot to dig into over the past year. Brent's Top Ten Movies Of 2014

Every year I tell myself I’m not going to make an end-of-year top ten list. I hate ranking films, but every year I cave and wind up throwing together a collection that I’m wholly unsatisfied with, and 2014 is proving to be no exception. Despite the fact that it was a terrible year in terms of overall box office receipts, that doesn’t mean there weren’t tons of great movies to be seen. I’m a firm believer that, no matter how fucked up the movie industry gets, there will always be people out there making interesting, worthwhile, badass cinema, you only have to look for it. Just check out all the amazing work on television right now, and all the big name filmmakers who are migrating that way in search of creative freedom. There will always be compelling stories being told.

'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Movie Review

Have you ever wondered what would look like if Star Wars had an awesome baby with Indiana Jones? I spent a significant amount as a child dreaming of just such a scenario, and my best guess is that it would probably look a lot like Marvel’s latest addition to their cinematic universe, Guardians of the Galaxy. I’ve been looking forward to this title since the comic book giant made the announcement—how can you not get excited at the prospect of badass talking raccoon?—and while my hopes were high, the actual movie totally lived up to and exceeded my expectations.
