'Red Sparrow' (2018) Movie Review

Red Sparrow exists in a strange middle place that doesn’t serve the adaptation of retired CIA officer Jason Matthews’ best-selling spy novel particularly well. It’s not tense or intriguing enough to stand with the best recent espionage thrillers, like Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Nor is it pulpy and trashy enough to be fun and provide an illicit charge. It’s fine, if way overlong, but it’s just kind of occupies space.

'Red Sparrow' Trailer: Jennifer Lawrence Gets In On The Spy Game

Everyone loves those Red Sparrow books—I haven’t read them, but they’re well liked to say the least. Jason Matthews novels have taken a place in popular culture that titles like Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train have held in recent years. And with such popularity and widespread cultural cache comes the inevitable big screen translation. Though it doesn’t come out until next year, the first teaser for Francis Lawrence’s Jennifer Lawrence (no relation) starring Red Sparrow is here. Take a look.

'mother!' Trailer: Jennifer Lawrence Gets Some Terrifying House Guests

A Darren Aronofsky movie, any Darren Aronofsky movie, is enough to get to the theater. The fact that he made a horror thriller, mother!, just sweetens the deal. We saw a quick tease a while back, which is all we really needed. But a full trailer is here, and if you’re into such things, give it a whirl below.

Watch The First Teaser Trailer For Darren Aronofsky's Horror Thriller 'mother!'

We live in a world where even trailers for movies get their own trailers. That’s just a weird fact of life that, rather than being a sign of the end of days as some choose to see it, I just think it’s an odd. And some of them are actually awesome, like this quick tease for Darren Aronofsky’s mother!.

'Passengers' (2016) Movie Review

Movies are an accumulation of thousands upon thousands of choices. The collective decisions of directors, actors, writers, editors, DPs, and even casting agents, add up to the final product that makes it to the silver screen. And sometimes, just sometimes, a single one of those fucks it up for everyone and sends the flaming wreckage of a movie into the waiting fireball of a sun. Such is the case with Morten Tyldum’s deep space romance, Passengers, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt.

Jennifer Lawrence And Chris Pratt Get Cute In Deep Space In First 'Passengers' Trailer

For a movie with a huge budget, two of the biggest stars in the world, a prominent director, and a prime holiday release, we’ve heard relatively little from Passengers. At least up until now, as the dramatic sci-fi romance delivered its first trailer.

Final 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Trailer Is Full Of Adventure And Surprises

While both Marvel and DC appear to have a roadmap for their respective superhero franchises—though they are certainly subject to change—20th Century Fox’s X-Men series has the feeling that they studio is just throwing things at the wall, seeing what sticks, and making it up as they go. They basically retconned the entire original timeline out of existence. It’s going to be interesting to see where they go with the latest installment, X-Men: Apocalypse. But as we approach the release date, we’ve got the final trailer, which arrives with some unexpected bits of fan service that are sure to make hardcore followers cheer in their seats. Watch it after the jump.

This 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Trailer Is A Trailer For A Superhero Movie

To be honest, I’m really looking forward to X-Men: Apocalypse—the last two installments were fantastic—and I’m going to watch the crap out of it, but what we’ve seen from the movie thus far has been a tad underwhelming. That includes the new trailer that dropped this morning.

Movie Review: 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 2'

As the title implies, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 2 is not a movie that tells a complete story. While last year’s Mockingjay—Part 1 was like watching the first half of a to-be-continued TV episode, Part 2 is a lot like picking up a book, opening to the middle, and starting from there. For those of you familiar with the dystopian woes of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and the drama in the near-future world of Panem, this provides a mostly satisfactory conclusion the saga.

'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2' Trailer Is Finally Here, And It's Badass

It’s been a few years and a bumpy ride for heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), but the dystopian teen phenomenon finally wraps up later this year when The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 2 storms theaters like a horde of rebels attacking a fictional city. Just in case you forgot how intense this is going to be, this new trailer reminds you of just that.

'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part1' Movie Review: All Smoke, No Fire

There are parts of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 that are harrowing, moving, and action-packed. While that can be fun to watch, and there are some nice bits of spectacle level eye candy, including the destruction of a massive damn, the problem is that the film never becomes more than simply the first part in a larger saga. This makes sense, obviously, as the third book in Suzanne Collins’ dystopian young adult trilogy has been split into two movies, but in this case, the film is all build up and feels like it’s just killing time before getting to the meaty part of the story.
