'Godzilla Vs. Kong' (2021) Movie Review

godzilla vs kong
With a movie with a title like Godzilla vs. Kong I only require a few simple things: Godzilla, King Kong, and Godzilla fighting King Kong. That’s is. Anything else is just window dressing. Director Adam Wingard (The GuestYou’re Next) knows this well and delivers plenty of monkey-punching-lizard action. And that rules. That’s all anyone really needs or wants to know.

'Godzilla Vs. Kong' Trailer: Yes, Godzilla Fights King Kong

godzilla fights king kong on a battle ship
I’m a simple man with simple tastes. Give me a giant ape fighting a skyscraper-tall lizard and I’m good. I don’t really care why they’re fighting, or where, or what they step on in the process. That’s all beside the point. And this is precisely what the first trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong delivers. Check it out for yourselves.

This 'Godzilla: King Of The Monsters' Trailer Goes Over The Rainbow

giant snarling monster

“Rodan, Ghidorah, Mothra…oh my.” “Set Godzilla free!” “This is Godzilla’s world, we just live in it.” Just when I think I can’t get any giddier about Godzilla: King of the Monsters, they have to go and release this short trailer full of campy one-liners and crap tons of new creature footage. All set to the darkest version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” you’ve ever heard.

This 'Godzilla: King Of The Monsters' Trailer Is Mostly Monsters

The biggest problem with Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla reboot is that it eschews the titular monster in favor or lackluster (read: whack-as-hell) human characters. Sorry, no one wants to see Aaron Taylor-Johnson wooden act his way through scene after scene when we could be hanging out with the King of the Monsters. Before he tussles with King Kong, Godzilla gets another solo joint courtesy of Krampus director Michael Dougherty. Judging from this new Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer, this movie rectifies the woeful lack of monsters in a big way.
