The 2022 Seattle Film Critics Society Award Nominations

Movies are pretty cool. A bold statement, I know. One of the perks (responsibilities that require additional work) of this job is that at the end of the year I get to shout out my favorite films by voting in a number of film critic groups. One that’s near and dear to my heart is the Seattle Film Critics Society in my hometown, and, wouldn’t you know it, we just announced our nominations.

The 2021 Seattle Film Critics Society Award Winners

Awards season seriously feels like it runs half the year. It’s not quite that long, but beginning in early (and earlier every year) December and, at least the last couple years, wrapping up with the Oscars in March, it’s not short.

2018 SFCS Awards: How I Voted

Yesterday, the Seattle Film Critics Society announced their 2018 film awards. I’m fortunate enough to be a member of that group and as such, was compelled to vote. Because I said I would, I decided to share my initial nomination ballot.

2018 Seattle Film Critics Society Award Winners

If you read this site on any regular basis, you’ve likely encountered me ranting about ranking movies, grading movies, and basically comparing works of art to one another as if there’s even a grain of objective truth to be found. I dislike it, quite a bit. But that’s a conversation for another time and place, and because of the whims and wills of writing on the internet, it’s never stopped me from assigning scores to a movie, writing “best of” lists, and all the rest. Nor has it stopped me from voting for end-of-year awards for a number of critics groups I belong to. One of these, the Seattle Film Critics Society, solicited input from our members and just revealed the 2018 Seattle Film Critics Society Awards.

The 2017 Seattle Film Critics Society Award Winners

It’s award season, mother fuckers! I’m fortunate enough to be part of the inaugural class of the Seattle Film Critics Society (they shot down my name suggestion: Seattle Movie Nerd Party Club). We’ve voted on and handed out awards a few times under this moniker, but before now it’s been a loose collection of like-minded film weirdos, not an actual group with like officers, by-laws, and things like that. I wrote about the nominees the other day, but now the final votes have been tallied and the winners are here. Drumroll please…

The 2017 Seattle Film Critics Society Awards Nominations

As 2017 wraps up (high fives to everyone for making it through this clusterfuck of a year!) it’s that time where groups and guilds and collections of people who watch a lot of movies get together to vote for the best of the year. I’m fortunate enough to be a part of a couple of these groups (because my opinion is the best one, obviously), including the newly minted Seattle Film Critics Society.

The 2016 Seattle Film Awards Winners

2016 saw the establishment of the Seattle Film Nerd Party Club (actually, it’s the Seattle Film Critics Society, but I’m going to keep using my preferred moniker until it sticks, so get used to it). And like every other critic’s group, we have our own awards. The nominations came down a while back, but today brings the announcement of the winners of the 2016 Seattle Film Awards (I have my fingers crossed for a live cable-access telecast hosted by the ghost of J.P. Patches for next year).

The 2016 Seattle Film Awards Nominations

Because I’m a super fancy film critic (i.e. I spend most of my free time sitting silently in dark rooms watching movies most people never see; writing about them online, where no one reads about them, for little to no money; and talking about these movies no one sees with other likeminded obsessives—jealous?), I get to vote in super fancy end-of-the-year film critic polls. One of these is the Seattle Film Critics Society, which just announced the 2016 Seattle Film Awards nominations.

Here Are The Winners Of The 2015 Seattle Film Awards

Awards season is in full swing. Critics and guilds and groups have been dropping best-of lists for the last month, the Golden Globes were given out last weekend, other trophies are being doled out, and the Oscar nominations will be announced tomorrow. Not to be left out, a bunch of Seattle-based movie critics, of which I am one, put our heads together, voted, and named our best films, performances, and whatnot of 2014.

Here Are The 2015 Seattle Film Award Nominations

I live in Seattle, and recently the film critics in town got together and voted for our favorite movies of the year. The Seattle Film Awards nominations came out today, and here they are. I voted for some of these, I didn’t vote for some of these, and my favorite movie of the year is nowhere to be found on this list (check out my Top Ten Movies of 2014). A second round of voting begins today and the winners will be announced on January 14, 2015. Here’s the full list:
