'Color Out Of Space' Trailer: Nicolas Cage, Richard Stanley, H.P. Lovecraft

Nicolas Cage. Richard Stanley. H.P. Lovecraft. I don’t need anything else to work myself up to frenzied levels of excitement for Color Out of Space. Then again, this first trailer doesn’t hurt things. And oh damn.

Color Out of Space made the rounds on the genre film festival circuit earlier this year, where folks I trust in such matters raved about it. But this trailer is the first look for the rest of us, and hot damn, it does not disappoint. This also apparently finds Cage working on a near-Mandy plane, which is good news for the world. And holy hell, I’m glad someone finally let Richard Stanley out of movie jail.

This looks so freaking great, just precisely what I want out of an adaptation and update of the Lovecraft story. Weirdness and horror and blood and off-kilter lighting and did I mention blood? And yes, that is Tommy Chong of Cheech and Chong, your eyes did not deceive you.

Here’s a synopsis:
After a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farm, Nathan Gardner (Nicolas Cage) and his family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism as it infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a living nightmare.

Color Out of Space also stars Joely Richardson, Q’orianka Kilcher, Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard, Madeleine Arthur, and Brendan Meyer. It hits theaters, and let’s be honest, probably VOD on January 24, 2020.
