'Babylon' (2022) Movie Review

Damien Chazelle’s latest opus, Babylon is a lot of movie. It might be the most movie of any movie of the year. At three-plus hours it’s a bloated and overflowing; an ode to  Hollywood excess that is, in itself, a Hollywood excess.

'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood' (2019) Movie Review

On their own, I like all—okay, most—of the pieces of Quentin Tarantino’s latest opus of revisionist history/love letter to a golden age of movies, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Individual characters, scenes, and moments stand out, and all his hallmarks are present and accounted for. The soundtrack kills, whip-cracking dialogue abounds, and harsh violence lurks just beyond the surface. Unfortunately, these pieces never cohere in any meaningful way and the whole thing feels empty and meandering, a collection of moments more than a cohesive being.

'Terminal' Trailer: Margot Robbie, Simon Pegg, Mystery, And Revenge

I had never heard of writer/director Vaughn Stein’s directorial debut, the neo-noir Terminal, before a teaser dropped the other day. 'Suicide Squad' (2016) Movie Review

Like the mismatched cadre of super villains of the title, writer/director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is chaotic and frantic and all over the place. At times this fractured nature can be propulsive and even invigorating. Other times—too often—this means the film is a messy jumble, awkwardly paced, and sorely lacks focus or depth. It’s a mess. An occasionally interesting mess, one not entirely without promise, but still a mess.

Okay, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was something of a letdown—I didn’t hate it like many, but it wasn’t great. But that doesn’t mean I’ve given up on the DC Extended Universe just yet. I have hope for Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and that solo Batman joint they might give Ben Affleck. Oh yeah, and there’s Suicide Squad, which looks like a complete and total blast (something BvS most certainly is not). Comic-Con is the gift that keeps on giving. We saw the new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer, that Star Wars: The Force Awakens reel, and Deadpool footage, all of which looks rad.
