This 'Terminator: Genisys' Trailer Shows Off Its Oscar Winner

While the earlier promotion for Terminator:Genisys has primarily focused on reintroducing the new versions of characters you know and love—Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), John Connor (Jason Clarke), Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney), the T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger)—this latest short U.K. trailer takes a different approach. They fly the “we’ve got an Oscar-winner in our movie” flag high, spending a fair amount of the minute-long run time showing off J.K. Simmons. Which is never a bad move.

He plays the harried detective with no idea what the hell is going on as various timelines collide and mix and shoot off in new directions. It certainly appears that he is going to inject some flustered comic relief into the film that otherwise looks like it takes itself very, very seriously. And we’ll watch Simmons in anything, so what the hell.

According to the few people who have seen Genisys already, it’s good, which is nice to hear after it has been called the final nail in the Terminator coffin. Thus far, this is the best the movie has looked, so they’re moving in the right direction at least. Intended as the first in a new trilogy, parts 2 and 3 are already scheduled to drop in 2017 and 2018. Check out the trailer below.
