Tom Hardy Does Double Duty In 'Legend' Trailer As Real Life Gangster Twins

The only thing better than one Tom Hardy is two Tom Hardys, and that’s just what you get in the latest trailer from Legend, where he plays real life London gangster twins Reggie and Ronnie Kray. Check it out after the jump.

This trailer from Yahoo looks grim and hits all the usual gangster tropes, but there’s also a sense of fun and adventure. And the story is too damn perfect. The Kray Twins were identical brothers who ruled the organized crime game in the East End of London in the ‘50s and ‘60s at the head of their vicious crew the Firm. They had their fingers in murder, armed robbery, racketeering, and all of the usual gangster shit, but also owned nightclubs and rubbed elbows with celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland, and local politicos.

As you see in this footage, Ronnie was likely a paranoid schizophrenic, which only enhanced his violent tendencies, and Legend tells their story as they try to cope, facing pressure form all sides, deal with power struggles, the chaos of gangster life, and all of the factors that lead to their ultimate downfall. And Tom Hardy looks rad in his double role and ‘60s fashion.

Legend also stars Emily Browning, Christopher Eccleston, David Thewlis, Chazz Palminteri, and Taron Egerton, and hits theaters in the U.K. on September 11. There’s currently no word on a U.S. release, but Universal is handling the details and plans to drop it this fall. Watch the trailer below.
